This DEFENSE is for REAL!
 

I thought they would be improved, and like a lot of people, figured a defensive ranking of somewhere around 20-25 would be sufficient to get us back to the playoffs.

I don't know what the yardage rankings are right now (and let's face it that is a somewhat meaningless stat) but what I am seeing on the field is far surpassing that.

In two games they have given up 3 touchdowns. and 2 of those were on a short field after a turnover. Time after time they come up with big plays at crucial points in the game. and today they did it with just 3 healthy linemen.

I am amazed by the progress they have made in such a short amount of time. This is like a dream come true.

sorry, because of bad play calling. Meaning forcing the run or Ingram, and Drew giving the other team 7 each game. We would be 0-2 without the defence. Thats just fact. wtg D

I am still not willing to say they are for real yet. However, they are really improved and that is good enough for me right now.

We are improved no doubt, but our defensive backfield is still a liability. I would love to know what this D would look like with everyone healthy.

we are not healthy enough to really judge and teams are just now getting tape on us.

i say week 5 we should be able to say something.

They play better than last year. But that is not saying much.

I want to see us play a good team before I give them my blessing.

Improved, but reserving the "For Real" label when appropriate. ATL was an emotionally charged game in the dome and TB has a glaring hole at QB and Head Coach.

I absolutely love what Ryan has done with this D, but not willing to give the "For Real" label yet. I'm very impressed with the D-line considering the injuries, too. I label them "Vastly Improved Until Proved Otherwise".

This defense reminds me of the Houston Texans Defense of 2 seasons ago... Wade Phillips had just became the coordinator, and they couldn't keep a defender on the field because of the injuries.... But they put together a pretty good defense while they got healthy and that's where we are.... Next Man Up!!!!

Here's why I will give this defense my blessing.....
- Rob Ryan lost both his guys ( Butler, Coleman) before we even sniffed the season.... They will be back!!!!
- Two division games only 31 pts.....
- The two graded out worst safeties in the league last year already have a pick a piece and a fumble recovery between them.....
- Curtis Lofton is flying to the ball....
- The D Line is VASTLY improved CAM, JUNYA, HICKS are taking on all comers!!!!

Jordan is beasting in the 3-4. Hicks has went from flashing as a rookie to playing like a future all-pro. Jenkins is the real deal at NT. Hawthorne is making an impact. Lewis is playing very solid at CB. Vaccaro is making plays. Haralson has been a steal from the 49ers. Jenkins has improved. Greer is scrappy and looks to be healthy. Rob Ryan is bringing all of the above together. So far, the defense is for real.

Its early to judge,but its def an improvment. I just want to be able to wipe from my memory that 50 yrds run of Jackson in week 1 ...

The defensive play is a welcome change for the better, but our veteran offense needs to start putting up some points before the defense gets worn out.

Two wins, and both lasted 60 full minutes. Not 59:55. SIXTY.

We need to BURY someone for once. It hasn't happened since the Colts.

My main worry as things stand is the lack of cover on the line.Cam,Jenkins,Hicks started to look tired in the Bucs game.
Again a good running game could eat the clock and keep them off the field but until Walker, Bunk and Johnson are fit its a worry.

Judging from the Seattle game, the 49er defense looks a little parted out. Their D is allowing 28.5 points per game. The Colts will be a good litmus test.

What has improved is our abiltity to get pressure with the D line. Something we haven't been able to do for years. That alone is huge. I am loving our defense!

Defense has played well the first two weeks, and currently seems better than any time recently for us. That said I'll reserve judgment until teams get film on us. Talk to me mid-season. I hope it continues

They are definitely improved, but don't forget Tampa had a couple of big plays negated by their own stupid penalties.
