Garrett Hartley

I think for the first time I actually feel confident Hartley can make any kick.

Keep it up Garrett!

Re: Garrett Hartley

He did miss a kick in the game, but the weather was awful. Hartley is doing just fine.

Hartley is consistently better on grass than turf.

Re: Garrett Hartley

All I ask of a kicker is that you make the last FG you attempt.
Hit the last one you kick in every game, and we'll be happy.

I hadn't seen Garrett look so 'refreshed' since his high school days out here at Southlake Carroll. Keep it up Hartley.

I still hide under the couch when he attempts a FG. I don't like any kicker that has a hook worse than my golf driver.

Re: Garrett Hartley

Still early to make a call, confidence wise. But so far he is doing well, and kicking the game winner in Tampa is great start (since we all still suffer from his miss against Atlanta a few seasons back). Good job, keep it up Hartley.

Looks like he finally gets it.

Re: Garrett Hartley

I definitely still have my heart in my mouth every time he kicks but he has been good in pre-season and so far this season. I'll give him that miss against Tampa as well, mainly because he didn't hook it. It was actually a well struck ball, just not accurate enough.

Who here however fancied him from 53 yards before we got a False Start and then had to punt (awesome punt by the way)? Because I certainly did not.

Didn't Schiano look like he was declining the penalty or did one of his players slide into second?

Re: Garrett Hartley

As usual I'm not the least worried when he kicks. I was furious about SP taking 3 points of the board however.

Re: Garrett Hartley

I'll eat a bit of crow, since he hit the game-winner on the road. He still missed one from 40+, but outside on the road in lousy weather can be forgiven a little. Will admit I was still not confident even from inside 30 on the last one, but he did it.

Ready to see it over the long haul...I'll eat a wing and a leg for now, but I'll eat the whole freakin bird and love it if he does it for the long haul.

Re: Garrett Hartley

He is an NFL field goal kicker, they hit and they miss...

I just wish his misses would come when we have a 21 point lead in the 4th

He has been the man this year. Crap weather for that one kick.

Re: Garrett Hartley

We had to win this game three times:

1. #5 misses field goal.
2. We volunteer three points from the score board in order to see Ingram do the old-school-electric-football stuck player routine. BZZZZZZZZZ
3. #5 bangs the winning field goal.

He's a freakin kicker. If we're depending on him to be anything but average we've got more serious problems than a fricken kicker.

The only positions less important than an idiot kicker are the long snapper and the punter.

Tell that to Moorstead. He is pretty much the best player we have on special teams. Which says alot about our special teams play.

um.... (and I dont
usually do that homo-smartass internet "um," but...

Normally, for about 59 minutes in a game, you would be right.

Usually your right in most cases, but since he has put up more points on the board than our fire-powered O has produced and kicked us to 2 wins, I would say we have had to depend on him to win both games, so in my eyes he has been real important. 2-0.

I don't hate them, I just think they have a less important role than any other position on the field, although long-snapper is close.

No one here ever worshipped punters until we burned 2 picks on one.

I am just throwing this out there..... Doing a fly by.

Imagine our opponents field position (considering our special teams tackling) if we had a one pick punter. :)

Re: Garrett Hartley

The potential for catastrophe and loss of a game in one play is greater for the skills performed by the specialists (i.e. Place Kicker, Punter, Long Snapper) than any other position from scrimmage...

They may not win games - but, they certainly can lose them...

And for that argument, they are extremely important to get right...

And as Coach Payton falls from the Coach Parcells Coaching Tree, I'm amazed we struggle in special teams as Coach Parcells truly made special teams discipline a team priority...

How many are drafted in the 1st 5 rounds?

I'll take a stud LB or DT over a LS anyday.

Who is our Long Snapper?

I don't see it on the depth chart

Fartley? Really?

Oh-fer 2. Missed from 47 yds and 38 yds. In a freakin' dome at home.

This better not be a sign of things to come from this notorious head case.

He'll cost us an important game soon, workout another kicker, one that can be more reliable
