does anyone know for certain.....

I heard a rumor recently, one so ridiculous that when I heard it I had to stop and just shake my head in disbelief. But it's been gnawing away at me ever since, more I think about it, the more it bothers me.

According to this guy (John) the state gives the Aint's a certain amount of cash each year to remain competitive, viable (team brings so much cash to the region... do you want us to move to a better market... blah, blah, yada, yada).

But the state only dishes out that cash when the team is hurting (i.e. W/L record under a certain threshold).

Would someone please debunk this? With certainty?

The state DOES pay, but I am fairly confident that there is no provision about W/L. The Saints get $$ from the state every year regardless of whether they\'re 0-16 or 16-0.

I was aware that they already received state funding, that\'s not in doubt. But am trying to get something concrete from someone, anyone on this board, that says \"there\'s absolutely no way whatsoever that statue funding ever increases, under any circumstances, due to poor performance by the Saints organization - I know for certain because <reason>\".

I think you can see that this is bothering me, and that I want to put it out of doubt, completely.

I think the reason I\'m so bothered by this is that the guy that told me is usually dead on about all things LA football. He should be wrong on this. Someone should be able to prove it.

You can\'t really say you know it\'s not so unless
a) you have seen the contract and noone here has (and even that might not be enough for some people) or
b) the Saints go 16-0 and the state STILL pays.

Not sure if it would even make sense for Benson financially to try to remain under a threshold as a winning team brings in more money from various sources - fan memorabilia, play-off game earnings (not sure if or how these are split between all NFL Teams though) etc.
