Adrian Clayborn Fined For Hit on Brees

This is getting silly. I actually did not find this hit a penalty. Sissy league.

NFL fines Bucs' Adrian Clayborn $21,000 for illegal hit on New Orleans Saints' Drew Brees in Week 2, source says | NOLA.com

Bucs defensive end Adrian Clayborn became the third Tampa Bay player to receive a fine this week as the league docked Clayborn $21,000 for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Drew Brees early in the second quarter in Week 2, according to a league source.

I am with you on this... didn't think it warranted a fine.

I'd appeal the fine.

I thought the flag was enough, it wasn't intentional...

Why was he fined? That was one of few legal hits the Buccs landed last week

Me thinks the NFL is just trying to get rich.

They did. The team was fine $50,000 for illegal hits by their players.

I don't think it was intentional but he hit the quarterback in the helmet, with his helmet. That is going to get nailed every time these days.

I also think the league saw the tape of that whole game and realized that team plays over the line so they're trying to reel things in.

League sending a message. The hit by Black on Graham was the only rediculous one I saw all game.

Yea I would let that one slide. Pretty soon you wont even be allowed to sack the Qb. I can see the league sending the mesdage that ****ng with qbs wont be tolerated, but its getting rediculous when a defender has to make a decision to stop in his tracks rather than go for a sack for fear of getting fined. I saw one of our players do that to Ryan. He had broken through and was right in ryans face uncontested and just stopped and jumped up flailing his arms like he was going to scare ryan. Ryans arm was still going back. It would have been a sack for sure and probably would have forced a fumble.

First there was parity. Suddenly Suddenly anything better than mediocre meant you were one of the best teams in the league. Then they started throwing flags for breathing on a receiver. Now you not only get flagged but fined for doing your job if you play defense.

If it weren't for the Saints I don't think I'd even watch the NFL.

I dunno, I kinda like it. I like that there was originally no fine for the hit on Brees, then on Wednesday Brees opens his mouth and talks critically about Goldson, and then suddenly the NFL perks up and 24 hours later there is a huge fine on Clayborn coming down the pike. Way to work the press. Brees is making Goodell dance. Next time we play the Bucs, there will be a fine history for those guys and the next fines and suspensions will be bigger, there will be controversy, the refs will be looking out for it, and the Bucs will have to think twice about delivering shots. Competitive advantage.

It was a hard hit but not a hit that deserves a fine.

Yeah why was that a fine.

How can you fine a guy for incidental contact that goes on every play between down lineman? This is the 'slippery slope' I'm talking about ... the hits on Sproles/Graham deserved fines, this was just a 'personal foul' level hit, IMO.

It wasn't fined because it was hard, it was because it was a helmet-to-helmet that could have been altered.

Trying to justify a fine like this is stupid.
