We tried to trade for Meachem??
 

Heard this on the broadcast and I know I can't be the only one.

After Meachem's touchdown the PBP guy said the Saints had tried to trade for him while he was still with the Chargers. They said "no" and then turned around and cut him 2 weeks later.

Have to wonder why the Chargers wouldn't have taken the deal and gotten at least something in return.

It must have been a player for player trade, somebody with a similar contract.I dont think we could have afforded him otherwise

Since we picked him up off waivers, do the saints absorb his contract he signed with the chargers and does it count against the saints cap?

We didnt get him off waivers if I remember correctly. He cleared waivers and waz signed as a FA

Errr... Excuse me but he was a FA and didn't have to clear waivers. This means that he was free to sign with anyone for the league minimum if need be.

The Chargers are my second favorite team.

Sam Rosen is a broadcaster (a pretty well-respected one at that) and those guys don't really talk rumors and speculation during the game. He seemed pretty matter-of-fact about what he was saying.

I believe we are paying him close to the minimum.
Chargers still owe him $5 million for 2013 in a guaranteed contract

Have to wonder? Because they're the Chargers. I don't know what it is about San Diego but whomever comes in and runs the team has a brain cramp several times throughout the year. San Diego is literally paying Meachem tons of money this year while he is on OUR team. Add to that all the other talent they've let walk out the door: Drew Brees, Darren Sproles, Michael Turner, Vincent Jackson.

actually 4th and 4. Ingram only averages 2 yards per carry

In 2013 We pay him 715k and the Chargers pay him 1.8M
In 2014 the Chargers pay him 3.7M and who else pays hm what is yet to be known.

Who could the Saints have traded? Surely not Mark Ingram, since the Bolts already have Ryan Mathews (I realize Mathews hasn't set the world on fire, and has had some injury problems; but the same can be said of Ingram).

I seriously doubt we did. We didn't and still don't have the money under cap for what his contract would have cost us. Picking him up as a free agent was the only way we could bring him back.

I don't believe anything like this, unless I see it in print or it comes from Payton's mouth (and even then I don't always believe him). These commentators do not follow the team like we do. They read a stack of internet articles really quickly a day or two before the broadcast, and that's it. I have heard nothing about this. He might have just been trying to save a little face for the Chargers. It's possible.
