Forecast: Saints fans endure more misery

Webster's dictionary defines Hell as, "Extreme disorder and chaos or any place or state of torment or misery." The former is a perfect description of the Saints as a football team while the latter sums up where Saints fans think they are every Sunday afternoon.

You know the worst thing about Sunday's game? There are 11 more just like it left on the schedule. After the Saints pulled the daily double against two of the NFL's winless teams, all hope has died or in the case of the Saints - been called for a false start.

For a moment yesterday it felt like the Saints were playing an inter-squad against themselves. Tampa was matching them miscue for miscue.

Deuce fumbles and the Bucs scoop and score but then Tampa commits a personal foul on a Saints field goal to give New Orleans a chance. The Saints may be the president of the undisciplined but Tampa could be vice president.

The Buccaneers are so inept on offense Jon Gruden knew he couldn't run the ball on the Saints so he threw all day instead. Ok, not all day but Brian Griese was 16 of 19. Read that last sentence again so it sinks in. Tampa has one viable NFL offensive weapon in Michael Clayton and yet pretty much controlled the whole game.

The Saints defense couldn't make the stops when it counted most and if you want to blame Venturi fine but really is there anyone on the defense besides Charles Grant doing anything? Mike McKenzie can no more give vast improvement to the Saints defense than binoculars could help a blind man cross the street.

Opposing teams never even seem uncomfortable against the Saints. You never get the feeling the defense is about to take control or make a big play. And that was against Tampa and Arizona people. Minnesota is in the Dome next Sunday night. Are you ready for some football? Randy Moss and Daunte Culpepper will be.

The offense did get a spark from Deuce but Aaron Brooks was off. He wasn't awful but never was in sync. He did face a good bit of pressure but had a couple of chances at some big plays but missed. The biggest was an incompletion to Donte' Stallworth in the end zone with the Saints trailing 20-14. Tough throw but one Brooks can make.

Here is the problem with the Saints offense and it comes in the form of a question. What do they do the best? Meaning what play would they run on a key 3rd and 4 to get a first down that they would have great confidence would work? You have no idea huh? Well the Saints are probably thinking the same thing. No identity. Are they a running team or a passing team? Physical or finesse? Good teams know who they are and what they do best. The Saints seem to have no idea about either.

There are still 11 weeks left so now what: probably a long slow death march to January. The Saints will most likely play worse and worse each Sunday with less desire after each loss. It's a pretty grim assessment but they just lost back-to-back games to winless teams. If there is a way to have a worse two weeks in the NFL please send me an email and describe it to me.

This is what the 2004 Saints are- the worst 2-3 team in football. This is Jim Haslett's team and the only question that matters now is this, "Tom Benson are you paying attention?"

Spin spin spin. I acknowledge his mistakes. It\'s when I try and get YOU guys to recognize the mistakes around him that causes the problem. See blocking, dropped passes, etc.

We recognize those things, but those are not the cause of the problem those are a contributing factor.

Definite cosign on this one. It echoes my feelings perfectly. The worst 2-3 team in the NFL is so on the mark.

But Benson isn\'t listening. He has his money. He has a full Dome. He could care less. I don\'t know why Foster didn\'t connect performance incentives to the money. Get in the playoffs, you get the full complement, otherwise you get a percentage based on win/loss record. They Benson would do what needs to be done: Fire Haslett and his top coaches, Loomis and his top people, and get some talented football people in here. I\'m sure that folks like Jim Fassel are just salivating at the thought of getting their hands on all that talent.

Anyone thought about asking Jim Mora the elder if he\'d come back for 10 games. He may jump at the chance to whup up on Junior two times this year.

Personally I\'d be calling Bob Kraft and offer both of next years 2nd round picks to get Romeo Crennel today. Belichic loves draft picks...
