McAfee signs for third stint with Saints

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- The New Orleans Saints signed veteran Fred McAfee to his third stint with the team Tuesday.

McAfee, who made the Pro Bowl in 2002 for his special teams contributions, also played in New Orleans from 1991-93 and 2000-2003. He had 15 tackles, nine solo, on special teams last season for the Saints in 14 games.

McAfee also has played with the Arizona Cardinals (1994), the Pittsburgh Steelers (1994-98) and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1999).

They had to let Mcafee go because they needed a special teams player that could fill in at CB since we had such little depth. With the addition of McKenzie (who will start over Thomas and not Ambrose) Harper became expendable as a CB, and Mcafee is hands down a better ST player.

Interesting. I posted before I wouldn\'t be surprised if they kept Ambrose in the starting position if and when McKenzie finally happened.

But I\'m not sure that I agree with it, however. Have you noticed how often Ambrose gets targeted by the opposing teams? There must be a reason they do that.... It\'s been going on since preseason.
