Patriots given extra timeout!!

Re: Patriots given extra timeout!!

I think that was just an error by the network TV provider. Besides, the refs in this game didn't know what a timeout signal was anyway.

If they are reading this then I can tell them it is when someone (particularly a QB in this instance) places one hand out with the palm down. Then puts the other hand's fingertips directly in the middle of the palm of the first hand. When that occurs these said refs should immediately blow their devices which are handing around their necks called whistles.

That stops the play and the team who had a person perform this timeout stance can regroup and talk over how impressive the refs were to actually look at the QB during a play.

The play resumes after a set time and the game is now legal.

No offense to you Saints1234 because I know you're just posting this.

The Fox graphic is NOT the official game timeout counter.
There was a TV timeout in there and the Saints took a timeout.

I'm super disappointed in our fanbase. I'm seeing people crying like children all over the internet after a loss to a solid team. We're sounding like falcons life with the conspiracy theories.

If the NFL finds the Pats got an extra timeout, they'll make that determination. Still will do NOTHING to give us a W we did not earn. I wouldn't want a win like that anyway. We lost the game guys and gals, beaten by a superior force. We'll learn and adjust and live to die another day.

We're really sounding like crybaby bad sports who cannot take or handle a loss. You take the loss, give congrats the other team and move on. I'm sorry that I'm realizing how many of our fans are unsportsman bandwagoneers. I digress....

Re: Patriots given extra timeout!!

The time outs were correct. There wasn't any additional time outs granted.
The problem I had yesterday was the inconsistent calls by the officials. If you are going to error on the safe side in PF calls on WR, do it both ways. Hell the NE defender gave himself a concussion on the hit on Sproles and you can see the official reach for his flag then take his hand away. We didn't bring our A game but there were at least 4 calls or non calls that hurt us yesterday.

Agreed Halo. After the game I felt like we had 2 chances to seal it. We didn't. I called my old man and told him that the Saints are fine. 5-1. Going into the bye to get healthy. A lot of is were saying we would be 4-2 or worse through this stretch. We played the Fins, then the Bears and Pats on the road. We lost to the Pats. Oh well. The Saints are still primed for a fantastic season. We weren't going to run the damn table. We have some very important games coming up against San Fran and Seattle. Get healthy and kick ass!

If only your fanbase had more fans like you. Instead all I'm seeing is people blaming the refs and now the patriots getting an extra timeout *Which is not true by the way* on why you guys lost. Its pathetic guys. You lost to the better team that day. They made more plays. Only losers make excuses. Own up to the loss!!

Re: Patriots given extra timeout!!

Halo is right, but there's another dimension to the anti-ref talk, and it's this: officiating in the NFL is at an abysmally low level. It has reached the point where people expect every game to have lousy officiating...and they're usually right. It's true that both sides have to play through bad officiating, just as they do the weather, and in theory it evens out; but accepting that as simply an unchangeable fact only helps to perpetuate the problem. Unfortunately, the only way to force the NFL to clean up its act is to challenge the legitimacy of the outcome...and when you do that, you inevitably come off as whiny.

Maybe the solution would be for the punditry to take up a real controversy, and an important one, with the same fervor they display for a phony one like the Redskins' name.

I understand what you mean but Saints' fans rarely blame anything and are owning up to the loss. Hey, the Pats made the play after all.

But my point is these were soooo obvious that they need to be pointed out. One loss to an AFC opponent. So what. Blatant ineptness of epic proportions by refs getting paid big money. Really is a big deal. Just my $.02.

Most people I have spoke too gave said the refs cost us the gane and I agree with that, but we had the game won and should have killed it off.The refs put us in a hole, we climbed out then fell back in the pit.

Re: Patriots given extra timeout!!

Two huge turning points in the game, Brees calls a time out and the official ignores it and the fact that without the time out the clock ran out. The result? A turn over. (They also did it again to Payton the sidelines.)

The second was the blatantly obvious holding on the winning touchdown. How could the ref miss that? I don't think he did. He just deliberately ignored it. The result? We lose.

I'm not one for blaming a loss on the refs but in this case I believe it's warranted. We won't even mention Talib mugging Graham 10-15 yards down field all day.

If we had handled our business we wouldn't be as incensed as we are today because we would have won the game but this was outrageous!

The referees shouldn't be the deciding factor in a game like this.

(And we're going to be lectured by a Falcons fan? You have to be kidding me.)

Second,
Halo Isn't that what these types of forums are for?
To complain about stuff.?.?.
Couldn't you say "you are super disappointed" about every single post?
People come here to vent their frustration.
Yeah, we know "The Pats made more plays." yada, yada, yada...
"Saints should have put the game away."
But that doesn't change the fact some people believe the Pats were given a little help.
I watched the game in a restaurant, no sound... I had to text my brother (who was watching with sound) to see if the announcers were commenting on the officiating. This was before the final drive.
So visually, there was something going on.

I am not upset about a timeout, I am pissed cuz a no call holding on patriot's touchdown,,,the ref is place in back of the qb to make those calls,,,what da he'll was he looking at to miss that! Second, a false start call on the saints that was obviously a offside on patriots.

Next the play calling on the offense, when have Payton started playing the offense to not lose the game? He was always a play to win "petal to the metal" I just don't want to go back to the dome patrol era great defense and conservative offense,, I just can't handle the drama

Re: Patriots given extra timeout!!

IMO, the reason that fans are having such a problem with this loss is that it is hard enough to win an NFL game anyway, but when a team has to worry about the refs not getting the simplest calls right:
1. An official is standing at the line of scrimmage watching for offside and false starts
About Football Glossary - Head Linesman

2.An official is supposed to be watching the play clock
About Football Glossary - Line Judge

3. An official is supposed to be watching the QB
About Football Glossary - Referee

I will guarantee you that if it had been Brady that tried to call timeout before the clock ran out and then threw an interception, the officials would have either thrown a flag or awarded the Pats the timeout.

That was Lewis, they even kept the camera on him for a few seconds after he did it to see if he would figure it out. (Even the cameraman knew that was not the thing to do)

For some reason, pretty much our entire organization showed up Sunday with their head not in the game.. We should be used to this by now, it happens once a season. :bng:

Re: Patriots given extra timeout!!

I'm sorry, I'm with Boutte on this. I'm not upset that we lost, we were gonna lose some games this season, I get that. It's HOW we lost. We obviously didn't show up to play the first half, and that's our own fault. But we came out swinging in the second half and fought hard to get back in the game. It's hard enough to beat a team like the patriots with neutral referees, but when the calls are blatantly called against you, I'm sorry, it's hard not to notice that. Even some of the guys on ESPN radio yesterday was calling Bravo Sierra. We had the entire football world against us last year. I think we're still being scrutinized because of Roger Goodell's bounty gate. We got blow to the head penalties called against us that was completely unfair. The patriots made some "blow to the head" plays was wasn't even looked at. The off sides penalty? really? They even reviewed it. The no time-out? WTF? What about that choke hold on the last play of the game? Come on man! Call me a nut, call me a conspiracy theorist, call me a sore loser, I don't care. Without those crappy referees in that game on Sunday, it would have been a whole different ball game. Would we have won? Would we have lost? I don't know and I don't care. But we wouldn't have lost like that. Now, I'm not whining because we lost. I just want the refs to either be trained properly, or have some kind of consequences for blatently terrible calls. Were they the reason we lost? Not completely, no. Did they contribute to our loss? You're damn right they did.

Rant over...

All points are valid even if some feel its a form of crybabyism. Cool I have no problem with it . BUT really all eyes are on the QB and not 1 saw he signaled for T.O. I feel once a group of refs blow dat many calls, they shouldn't be allowed to ref for whille, get suspended something needsto done

Plain and simple we had the ball twice with a little over 2 min left in the game and we did nothing with it. We should have run the ball on the 2nd down before we punted vs. throwing it. We also should have ran the clock down and taken the -5 yrd on the punt. We could have also not thrown the guy out of bounds on the Pats last drive. WE had a lot of mistakes in the game that hurt us. Yes the refs didn't help but we also didn't help ourselves with this game.

I agree 100%. There is no question we screwed around and lost the game. However, we shouldn't even be having this conversation regarding blatently bad calls by the officials. Yes, there are bad calls in every game. But one of those bad calls was reviewed (the false start) and they still got it wrong. One resulted in a play that should never have been run (the timeout that resulted in an int). One resulted in a game winning touchdown pass with 5 seconds left on the clock (the chokehold there offensive lineman had on our defender). If we got our ass kicked by the Patriots, I'm good. The Patriots are good. No doubt about it. No shame in losing to them, especially with 5 seconds left. But when we get our asses kicked by the patriots AND the officials, I have a problem with that.

I'm ok with our loss. It's not eating at me like it sounds. I just want something constructive to come out of this BS officiating this past weekend.

That's all I'm gonna say about it.

Anyone see the pass hop off the ground to the pats' receiver on the last drive? At that point in the game I knew they were gonna score and win! Whether we realize it or not little things add up to a lot in the long run so we can say oh that call didn't affect the outcome or that one didn't but the fact is they may have not by their self but together yes!it also affects the players when they are doing everything right and still get penalized! Bottom line we had a chance to ice it we didn't! After that 2 critical non-calls ultimately did us in!
1. Incomplete pass that skipped off the ground
2. The clear as day holding on gallete on the td pass!
