I wish we could move into the Top 5 (by trade) and select OT Jake Matthews...

Trent Murphy at 6'6" 260, could make one hell of a 3-4 OLB and move down on the line in our 4 man front.

Ryan could seriously disguise formations...

In fact: Murphy already plays at OLB for Stanford...

Re: Bye week draft thoughts

ok draft time i love the bye week

hmmm sign or tag Graham makes no difference. either way we are going to loss a player or two. Not enough money to compete with other offers or moves to free up money.

May not have enough money to compete with other offers:

Malcolm Jenkins at Safety
Brian De La Puente at Center

Draft Needs:

1) Offensive Line
2) Linebacker
3) Quarterback
4) Cornerback
Good list, although I don't know if we should spend a pick on a QB just yet. Just my opinion but I think we just keep picking up the journeymen that float around the league for a year or two more. A bit closer to the end of Drew's contract.

Re: Bye week draft thoughts

dreams are hard to watch coming of the board

C.J. Mosley, OLB/ILB, Alabama - perfect fit for the defense. ILB/OLB that excels at pass defense. yep ILB first in my book

Cyril Richardson, ROT/G, Baylor - just what the dr orders for Ingram and saints running game. Unless he is really slow out of the blocks i can see no reason he can not man the ROT position

Alas they will be gone. so i am torn right now on these 5 at the mid season mark. Nice thing about pick so low in the draft area of needs seem to be working out as BPA

- Bishop Sankey, RB, Washington Huskies
Height: 5094. Weight: 203
Projected 40 Time: 4.49

Catch Phrases: speedy, shifty, good size, excellent body control, balance, through-hole vision, Good hands out of the backfield, too. All have tried to stop him and all have failed

But it would be the end of Ingram and the saints. If so i hope he ends up in a power running game were he belongs and can flourish.

- Kyle Van Noy, OLB, BYU
Height: 6-3. Weight: 235.
Projected 40 Time: 4.65

He is exactly what the Saints OLB core needs. He is a solid blitzer. Solid at the point of attack. BUT he excels in pass defense. A BIG VOID IN THE SAINTS DEFENSE. LB that can cover. Only wish can he slide inside?

- James Hurst, LOT, North Carolina

Height: 6-7. Weight: 310.
Projected 40 Time: 5.25.

book end LT? why not. he may not look pretty but he has been getting the job done the past two years in the SEC.

- Aaron Colvin, CB, Oklahoma
Height: 6-0. Weight: 181.
Projected 40 Time: 4.48

He is solid and has done nothing but made positive moves in his draft value all year. He may not be flashy but he is looking to be one of the better all round CB in the draft

- Ed Reynolds, FS/SS Stanford

Height: 6-2 Weight: 206
Projected 40 Time: 4.54

Ball hawking is not an issue here neither is his smarts. the issue is is tackling. he has shown improvement so i have keep him on the list. I just can not take him off my short list.

Player that scares me the most is

Khalil Mack, OLB, Buffalo
Height: 6-3. Weight: 245.
Projected 40 Time: 4.69

he did great in the preseason warm games this year but really is he first round material? Is he worth the risk? this years early wild card Cinderella story

Shut down CB? Flashy BUT

Loucheiz Purifoy*, CB, Florida
Height: 6-1. Weight: 189.
Projected 40 Time: 4.42

Talent and skills set are there but after the LSU game I have serious issues with him. Or was the WR from LSU that good? i am leaning to a big yes on the LSU wide outs

Bradley Roby*, CB, Ohio State
Height: 5-11. Weight: 190.
Projected 40 Time: 4.46

Play has been solid for the most part but a few games leave me wondering

See this is wear i disagree with many pre drafts. i like the player but the saints really are not and have not as big of a need for pass rushers at the OLB/DE position as people swear they do. DE I think we have a a solid DE with another still developing. OLB is not an issue either when it comes to pass rush

So i am happy here but wishing for a more complete package

The Key need and biggest need is to address is pass coverage skill at OLB and ILB. Saints do not have the skill set to defend the mid range passing game. short slants and such are almost impossible to defend. it the 10 yard and 15 yard range were the team is glaring weak. Right now none of the ILB/OLB have shown the reaction skill set to shore up this weakness in the defense.

So pass rush is last on my list. Stout against the run and excels in pass coverage are the phrases i look for and watch for
