2013 NFC CONTENDERS' CORNER (Playoff Contenders' Info) Week 7

I’m sure you WhoDats are still shaking your heads about that heartbreaking loss our boys suffered at the hands of the Patriots. Let’s give ‘em credit: The Patriots defended their house. But now that the Saints are at the bye week (Week 7), they have time to go over the Good, Bad ‘n Ugly and be better prepared for the final ten games of the season. But as with every week, there are OTHER games that will have a bearing on the standings in the NFC; that’s why we bring this info to you each week.

With that, let’s consider the games that have an impact on the 2013 NFC standings:

Week 7 Bye teams: Saints, Raiders.

Thursday October 17th

Week 7, Game 1: Seahawks (5-1) @ Cardinals (3-3)

a. Why it is important: Both teams are NFC rivals. An UNLIKELY loss by the Seahawks in this one would be an important CONFERENCE loss, drop them behind the Saints by a full game in the NFC. Now that we’re nearing the halfway point, every game has significant playoff implications.

b. Desired outcome: Pull for the Cardinals. We remember “Beastquake” by Marshawn Lynch, and definitely would rather play the Seahawks in the Superdome (in the playoffs) rather than in Seattle. Here’s a painful reminder as to WHY:

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/BDOBejlx7Us" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

c. Confidence factor for a good outcome: 4.5 out of 10.

d. Vegas odds on this game: Seahawks by 7.

Sunday October 19th

Week 7, Game 2: Patriots (5-1)@ Jets (3-3)

N/A: AFC opponents.

Vegas odds on this game: line not available

Week 7, Game 3: Chargers (3-3) @ Jaguars (0-6)

N/A: AFC opponents.

Vegas odds on this game: Chargers by 9.

Week 7, Game 4: Bengals (4-2) @ Lions (4-2)

a. Why it is important: Lions are an NFC rival, atop the NFC North. Lions are a much better team at home, but are playing a very good Cincinnati Bengals team. This should be one of the better games this week.

b. Desired outcome: Pull for the Bengals (…easy choice when it is an interconference matchup).

c. Confidence factor for a good outcome: Even.

d. Vegas odds on this game: Lions by 3.

Week 7, Game 5: Bills (2-4) @ Dolphins (3-2)

N/A: AFC opponents.

Vegas odds on this game: line not available.

Week 7, Game 6: Bears (4-2) @ Redskins (1-4)

a. Why it is important: Both Teams are NFC rivals. Saints already have a game advantage because of their head-to-head victory over the Bears earlier this season.

b. Desired outcome: Pull for the Redskins, who play better at home. This might be an “Upset Special.”

c. Confidence factor for a good outcome: 4.5 out of 10.

d. Vegas odds on this game: Even.

Week 7, Game 7: Cowboys (3-3) @ Eagles (3-3)

a. Why it is important: Both teams are NFC rivals, and have identical W-L records.

b. Desired outcome: Hard for me to say pull for the Cowboys, so pull for the Eagles!

c. Confidence factor for a good outcome: 5.5 out of 10.

d. Vegas odds on this game: Eagles by 3.

Week 7: Game 8: Rams (3-3) @ Panthers (2-3)

a. Why it is important: Both teams are NFC rivals; Panthers are also an NFC South rival. The first order of business is to secure your own division. Therefore, we need the Panthers to choke at home in this one. Not likely, because they are gaining confidence and are playing at home

b. Desired outcome:. A win by Carolina puts them a mere 2 games behind the Saints, and we still have yet to play them. Very important game, WhoDat nation!

c. Confidence factor for a good outcome: 4 out of 10.

d. Vegas odds on this game: Panthers by 6.

Week 7, Game 9: Buccaneers (0-5) @ Falcons (1-4)

a. Why it is important: Both teams are NFC rivals AND NFC South rivals.

b. Desired outcome: Pull for the Bucs. Push the Falcons further into oblivion! A loss by the Falcons puts them in the NFC South basement.

c. Confidence factor for a good outcome: 4 out of 10.

d. Vegas odds on this game: Falcons by 9.

Week 7, Game 10: 49’ers (4-2) @ Titans (3-3)

a. Why it is important: 49’ers are an NFC rival, and fighting to stay within striking distance of the Seahawks.

b. Desired outcome: Pull for the Titans.

c. Confidence factor for a good outcome: 4 out 10.

d. Vegas odds on this game: 49’ers by 4- ½.

Week 7, Game 11: Texans (2-4) @ Chiefs (6-0)

N/A: AFC opponents

Vegas odds on this game: Chiefs by 7.

Week 7, Game 12: Browns (3-3) @ Packers (3-2)

a. Why it is important: Packers are an NFC rival, and just a half game behind the Lions in the NFC North.

b. Desired outcome: Pull for the Browns.

c. Confidence factor for a good outcome: 3.5 out of 10

d. Vegas odds on this game: Packers by 10.

Week 7, Game 13: Ravens (3-3) @ Steelers (1-4)

N/A: AFC opponents.

Vegas odds on this game: Steelers by 1.

(SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL)

Week 7, Game 14: Broncos (6-0) @ Colts (4-2)

N/A: AFC opponents.

Vegas odds on this game: Broncos by 7.

Monday October 21st

Week 7, Game 15: Vikings (1-4) @ Giants (0-6)

a. Why it is important: Both teams are NFC rivals. Giants are due for a victory, and just might get it this week on national TV. As weird as it may seem, the Giants are still only 3 games back in the NFC East because the division leaders (Cowboys & Eagles) are at .500 with a 3-3 record.

b. Desired outcome: Pull for the Giants, although an argument could be made to go for the Vikes because the Giants are notorious for slow starts, and are dangerous in the home stretch.

c. Confidence factor for a good outcome: 5.5 out of 10

d. Vegas odds on this game: Giants by 4- ½.

Thanks Stealthman good reading. And to be honest I think Carolina is the team to watch for the rest of the season. With that defense I can see them making a run. GO RAMS!

Carson Palmer handed (err... ummm...) PASSED the game over to the Seahawks.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda. Let's take care of our business in the coming weeks.

Could we get so lucky that the Falcons and Panthers both lose?!
