Sam Montgomery?

Can this man be salvaged and is Payton/Rex the men to do it? I just remember him as a phenomenal 3-4 type at LSU.

hell yeah if they can do it go for it. i always liked him and now the price would be right after all the crap before the draft. kids got talent. maybe short on common sense but he can play ball

I would pass on him. I don't like defensive players munching on Cheetos on the sideline.

Payton/Loomis arent gonna take on any players w character flaws.

Re: Sam Montgomery?

Not right now. Taking on a "head case" player requires off season meetings, full training camp, bonding him to the team and individual players, it requires commitment, mentoring, coaches and players to keep an eye on him....and ain't nobody got time for dat, right now. A guy like that, you have to bring him in and really ingrain the culture of the Saints into him, and make him realize that the Saints are not like any of his previous teams or employers, everybody here wants to be here, and he cannot goof around and screw it up. You can't just trust or expect a guy like him to jump in at midseason and guarantee he'll fly right.

The Saints have been known to take risks, but only smart ones. And they use an off season to get them on board. Anthony Hargrove was a really good example of this.... I think Payton is more incline to guys who make bad choices in friends, or are young and have bad judgement. But guys who toke, that's a work ethic problem and I can't remember ever having any "weed" players like that on a Payton roster. There was Donte Stallworth but he was gone pretty quick, as soon as Payton got here.

Yeah, and hopefully they learned from it. Don't see it happening.

He's a piece of crap even going back to the LSU days... He's not long for the NFL. The heart and desire isn't there.

He projected as a very capable 3-4 OLB. He was considered a solid 2nd round prospect with a crap personality and no love for the game. Doesn't sound like a Saint to me. Hargrove had his problems, but he at least had passion for the game. Montgomery is just looking a free ride.

From John McClain who is the source here in h town, Jefferson and wood claim they were smoking "CIGARS" at a hotel in Kansas City, it got back to Kubrick, and all the players were released, McClain says Montgomery says he wasn't even in the room. Wood and Jefferson have checkered pasts with marijuana involved. I also think Montgomery by the way McClain talks fit nowhere in the Texans 3-4, even though they tried him at several positions during the offseason. To me, they were trying to find a way to cut there loses with him. He made it easy.....

I don't care what he did with the Texans but I would still like to know what they did to get cut. I watch a lot of Texans games and these three guys was looking good in the preseason and had a good future ahead of them.

HE DID! LOL
I think this could be an opportunity.
He's clean and apparently wrongly accused.

Sam Montgomery passes drug test, days after Texans release him for allegedly smoking marijuana

Following his release, Montgomery voluntarily submitted to an independent drug test in order to provide further proof and evidence that he was not using illegal drugs. The results of those tests came back negative, confirming his statement that he was not using marijuana or illegal substances.

Hey, he provided the paperwork! (Honestly, I'm just trying to make some fun friday discussions. :D Seriously don't think the Saints want him.)

I think he suffers more from a BIG MOUTH and poor coaching/motivation in college. Trust me, we had guys like Will Smith who took half a season off.
