embarrassed by some folks in 650

Sat in section 650 next to a small group of Bills fans. Maybe 7 or 8. They were good peeps, cheering for their team and not looking for any trouble.

Everything was cool until about 10 minutes in. My group as sitting on the back wall so of course on third downs we're hitting the walls and making noise for our defense.

So later on the Bills fans start doing the same. No big deal right? Well some stupid harpie a few rows down starts screaming at them, using language I was embarrassed to hear and I was in the Air Force. Her husband runs and calls security and they come up and jump on these guys who had done nothing wrong. I thought it was garbage.

Of course we get up by 3 scores later and here come people getting brave and chest beating. One guy walks all the way up from the first row, gets in theirfaceand starts yelling. They showed admirable restraint because I wouldve decked this loser. Another guy with fleur d e lis glasses and an old dirty saints flag is glaring at them trying to be intimidating. Another guy is simulating sex acts. And about half the people in the section were yelling, taunting and otherwise just being jerks.

I felt bad for those guys, they paid for their tickets and airfare etc just like everybody. And got treated like garbage. I hadnt been to a game in about 3 years but I've never seen that kind of crap. I was ashamed.

A few bad Apples. Man its all in fun. At the end of the day, were just fans we don't play. It's not life or death. Fan is short for Fanatics.

Thank You, Jack Vegas

Sad. It's just a game. Visitors spend $$$ at stores and such. Don't be butts. We aren't Philly.

Re: embarrassed by some folks in 650

Sorry to hear this, I personally haven't witnessed such bad behavior by our fans. I really wish someone would've taken them aside and told them to behave better, after all like exile said, we aren't philly.

Re: embarrassed by some folks in 650

It wasnt everybody being jerks but it was too many people for sure. I dont know exactly what has changed since my lsst game in 2010 but I am not ok with that.

The thing that made me pause was one of the guys was just shocked by the hostility and was like "man we're the bills, we're not a rival and we're not going to win this game. I dont get it."

I didnt get it either. We should not be treating people that way. It was bush league.

Re: embarrassed by some folks in 650

I sat in the cheap seats for most of the Dome patrol era and beyond.
When I graduated college I started moving down because it got annoying (yeah, that's right, annoying to a kid who was like 23 years old!)
Bring a date to the game and you both leave soaked in beer, and not your own.
There were routine HUGE brawls up there with security and crap that would distract you from like 5 minutes of the 3rd or 4th quarter.

Had season tickets one year next to a guy who insisted on taking his boots off when he got drunk, and his feet stank something horrible. When you'd confront him, he'd want to start a fight and cuss you like a sailor. I joined forces with another season ticket holder behind me and we had to go to the Saints ticket office and petition to get this loser kicked out. Luckily he did get thrown out and we weren't the only ones filing complaints.

I loved and hated the middle high part of the terrace. Sad part was, I wasn't as high as you Jack Vegas. About 10 rows further up, the 'really really' drunk and stoned people were at the tip-top of the Dome by the metal walls. They were constantly raising hell and sometimes torturing not only opposing fans but our own.

If someone gave me tickets up there today I'd probably skip most of the games except the really really good match-ups... and I live close enough to get on a street car and be at the stadium in 20 minutes.

The sorry fact is, NFL games everywhere are chock full of drunken azzhats at the tippy-top of stadiums. Sorry that happened, but I'm sure the experience at the top of the Bills stadium would not only be freezing, but annoying too.

Same exact thing happened to me and my friend at the packers game a few years back. I really hAve no burning desire to ever see another saint game live.
My daughter wants to go to one so I may be forced to. I hope it doesn't ruin saints football for her.

It's probably the same all over ... what I did was pony-up for better seats (ie club level) for my kids' first games and then go for the cheap-seats later, after I had 'em hooked,.

Re: embarrassed by some folks in 650

Two years ago me and some of my family went to a game and got the 650 seats never again before that and since then we gone back to plaza area. The crowd up there are classless and rude even to saints who they don't think are fans cuz they aren't cheering in a drunken stupor. Like the old saying you get what you pay for.

Budsdrinker 10-28-2013 08:15 AM

Re: embarrassed by some folks in 650

Yeah, it's just a shame we have some fans like that. We don't act that way in the plaza level. All the Bills fans I talked to said everyone treated them nice and had a great time. But as we all know every city has their share of A-hole fans.

That's it!!!

Am doing a sit-com called Season Tickets - the premise will be what happens in games like this with people recounting tales of their lives leading up to attending the game...

These stories have to be told...

Re: embarrassed by some folks in 650

I don't know what it was, but something was up yesterday - there were way more Bills fans in the terrace than I expected to see.

I am sorry this happened, and it sounds like later on in the game people got drunk and out of control. But I will say this, I have to say it.... Beating on the walls is a time honored Dome tradition, since the first person figured it out. But that is our house, they are visiting OUR house, our domain, and if the situation was reversed, there is no way in heck I would beat on the walls in the Bills' stadium, no way. As far as I'm concerned, the privilege of beating on that wall belongs to the Saints season ticket holders in that section, and no one else. I would call security on them in a heartbeat, too. No disagreement there. Beating on the walls of someone else's stadium is just downright disrespectful, that's an offense that warrants an in-your-face (but still appropriate and civil) response.

Would you beat on the walls in a stranger's house, if you went to a rowdy party there? Of course not. Would you beat on the walls of your own house? Sure. Or if it was a good friend's house, if your best buddy invited you to a party and said let's get crazy, and he asked you to beat on his walls with him? Sure I would. But I'm hoping that not one of you would beat on the walls of a total stranger's house, who invited you in.

Still, that's no excuse for the profanity and people acting like idiots that happened later on. That sounds pretty bad.

Re: embarrassed by some folks in 650

As someone from England, you will appreciate that I am used to far far far more hostile environments in sport. That's not me trying to be all 'cool' or make a point. That's the way it is. It still amazes me that you don't have the concept of a Home/Away section in the stands. Every soccer stadium in England has that and all top flight games will also have a row of police between the fans for the entire game.

I have been to home games (SuperDome) and always sat anywhere from 632 to 643. I have also had the honour of being right at the back and banging the wall! I have also been to road games. The simple fact of the matter is that wherever you go, you will always get some complete idiots. I hold the SuperDome up as one of the best places to go. Maybe because I am from England, I go out of my way to be cool with opposing fans (usually I want a picture! haha) but I have never seen anything like what is described in this thread. Ever. I have seen some serious taunting but all in the spirit of it.

Let us not forget I have stood at CandleStick park and been abused. And I mean ABUSED. I have stood at the Georgia Dome and been destroyed for 3 and a half hours. We got owned in both those games. I have also been to St Louis, where there were probably more Saints fans than Rams fans hahaha and had a great time.

This is all part of sport and unless it goes over the top it is part of the experience. Re what was said about the 650 shenanigans, that is out of order. I would have personally jumped in and done/said something. It does however sound like there may have been some Bills fans overstepping the mark as well though.

Tough one to call. But New Orleans is by far the best place for opposing fans to come from what I have seen so far.

The first Saints game I went to in the Dome in the 80s was Saints and Falcons. The Failclowns won and walking out the the Dome a middle aged women got in my face and started making fun of me and the Saints (I was about 7 years old) I have hated Atlanta ever since. Its to bad that some Saints fans are just as bad.
My wife and I went to the playoff game in Seattle a couple years ago and had a great time. We did score seats from a season ticket holder and everyone in the area was cool. The Seattle fans around us were classy in their win and it was a good game.

My son and I went in 2009 and saw the Jets and Saints. He likes the Jets (had a Curtis Martin jersey on) and I had my Brees jersey on.

We were on the visitor side several rows back and there were a handful of other Jets fans around us.

Everyone was talking a little smack, but it was all in good fun. I and most around me were going nuts for the Saints, the boy and the others for the Jets. Nobody was obnoxious or out of line.

And besides, when Sharper got that long pick 6 on Sanchez that took the air out of the Jets' fans balloon!

Re: embarrassed by some folks in 650

It's not just the upper level. There are a couple of "ladies" who sit in the Plaza level, who are so obnoxious. I have had season tickets for over 20 years and never had anything but a good time until this year. These girls act like they've never been out in public before. The sad thing is, they think they are cute with their put on New Orleans accents, they are not from here, and this pompom routine that they put on for every game. They spill beer on other fans and become highly offended if anyone complains about it. They don't even own the tickets. I was told they purchased them for the season from the actual ticket holder. Hope he or she doesn't sell them to these people again.

Yea that is pretty ****ty. Nothing compared to going into Bears, Philly, or SF though. Overall I think we are a pretty accommodating fanbase. shame a few losers have to spoil it. That being said any time you go into an opposing teams stadium you have to expect this can happen. Unfortunately.

The Dude 10-28-2013 05:04 PM

Re: embarrassed by some folks in 650

I may have mentioned it before but I used to live in Charlotte and those guys are the most fair weather fans I have ever seen. I could get tickets for every game for free most of the time. I maybe saw 30 games there and went to all the Saints games. Many times there were more Saints fans there than Panties fans.

I will say even though it was a rival the fans there were very accomodatiing with the exception of just a few. I even tailgated with a bunch of them routinely. Nice stadium and good peeps.

When I first moved there I knew nobody so for Saints games I would go to this sports bar and when I asked them to put on the Saints games they put me in a room by myself in the way back. For a season and a half I was the only soul in there. Eventually Saints fans would start wandering in one or two at a time and by the third year the place was packed with Saints fans. Kind of came the place to be for wayward Saints fans.

I agree with Halo. It really depends on where you are.

I used to be able to get free tix to the NO at TB games. I NEVER wore any Saints stuff it was ugly.

BUT the seats were right under the Pirate Ship, so that is expected.

Been to good seats at other stadiums & was fine. Cheap seats at the same stadium & it was UGLY.

I'd like to see something Saints related. As you know, i've also expressed a theory that guys who use avatars of themselves tend to be cooler to everyone on the net, over the non-anything-related, or fantasy characters. Not that it's any problem on this board. I've had nothing but cool here.

back on topic. I'm in 623, and we have probably one of the best sections, as far as civility. There is one guy who looks like a Soprano, who's a bit demonstrative, but I never see him actually harassing anyone. If someone got ugly with anybody elses fans, I would step in. That crap aint happening in my section.

I can tell you, overall the Terrace has become much more civilized since the 80's, when the steps, floor, everyone, everything was soaked in beer, and I did see fights every game, and our first year back, '06, one dead guy. (he just died, no one killed him.) But that crap wont happen in my section.

We are loud, and we do raise hell, and I know I'm not like everyone else, being
a swamp dweller, but Im happy in the Terrace. Its still the best place to see the game, too.

Everybody be cool, and do what you can to make sure we remain the best fans in sports.

The worst visiting fans outside the division are Eagles fans...

OMG, they are the worst...

Can't censor their tongue, can't hold their liquor...

There's a running joke among Superdome Security that when they have to leave,

they roll themselves down the aisle and you just steer them like a loose wheel to the exit...

The superdome and obnoxious fans have NOTHING on 2002-2006 Buc fans OMG!! Try living in Tampa and being a Saints fan around not only their dominance in the division for years but also their superbowl run..
It's not for the faint of hearts being in a rival city and your rival is the first in the Division to get a Superbowl.. (still aint)
The Raymond James is a hallow shell of it's former self than it used to be. Saints fans can comfortably take that stadium over now and we heckle them alot, i only do a little by blasting Saints music out of my car next to Buc fans on purpose or screaming out WHO DAT in the stadium but never need to fight or get in people's personal space.

I wasn't trying to start a discussion about the worst places to go to a game. Lord knows Philly, Buffalo, Boston, Oakland, etc. are places where visiting fans are made to feel much more unwelcomed.

But NO is a town that exists largely because of tourism. I would think that if anybody realized the importance of treating visitors well it would be Saints fans.

Here's the thing though. All they were doing is cheering for their team. Maybe you don't think they should be hitting the walls. Maybe they shouldn't. But they weren't drunk or rowdy or yelling at anybody else. It was like 8 dudes hitting a wall on third down, and they were just having fun. It was pretty clear they weren't trying to get on anybody's nerves. They certainly weren't doing anything that warranted a visit from security.

To their credit though, they stopped doing it and started saying "bang bang bang bang!" instead. Pretty funny. Good dudes, and good sports even when people started singing the goodbye song at the end as they were leaving. The good Saints fans on the way out were giving them high-fives and handshakes. That is what you want to see.

I still don't understand why security went up to them instead of dealing with the drunk idiots who were causing all the problems in the first place. There were several 3 and 4 year old kids in the few rows just in front of us, if I had my kid there I would've been pretty upset at the way they are acting.

It took me and 6 or 7 other Saints fans to keep them from getting kicked out because we went to the guards and told them what was really going on. If anything I was just as aggravated with the guards as the bad eggs in the crowd, because the guards weren't even trying to get the whole story, they just took the word of one clearly drunk and beligerant Saints fan.
