New Orleans Saints release cornerback Chris Carr, agent says

Larry Holder, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune By Larry Holder, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune

The New Orleans Saints opened up a roster spot Friday by releasing cornerback Chris Carr, his agent Buddy Baker said via Twitter.

Carr served primarily as backup cornerback through his five games with New Orleans this season picking up one interception and two pass breakups.

The corresponding transaction isn't know yet.

It may only be coincidence, but linebacker Jonathan Vilma is eligible to be activated for the Jets game on Sunday after being on injured reserve/designated to return.

He's practiced for two weeks as part of the IR stipulation and said Friday, "I know I'm feeling good running around, and I think I look good on film. It's really up to coach to decide when I can play. I don't really know all of the technicalities within the rules, so it's one of those, 'Hey, you're up. Great.'"

Re: Saints Release Chris Carr

Vilma returns for Jets game? Or do we activate an O-lineman in case Evans can't go?

Also today, WR Chris Williams just got his pay bumped to NFL minimum...

Hmmmmm...

I kind of liked having Carr on the team. Wish there was someone else they could cut.

Why? This guy was a liability in coverage... not a surprising move.

All #5 CB's are a liability in coverage, its why they're the #5 CB on the team. He was emergency depth at nickle/dime and a special teams contributor.

If we need him next week, he'll be available. We just have other needs for the Jets, like O-line depth and maybe WR depth if Colston can't go (he did not practice today).

With White playing so nicely, Carr was the odd man out & I think it was the right move even if they decide to bring him back or not.
