Marques Colston sits; concern for Saints?

While the Saints got Jimmy Graham back to a full number of snaps in Sunday’s loss to the Jets, top wideout Marques Colston missed his first game of the season to a knee injury. Colston’s production is way down in 2013, leading to speculation that he’s been bothered by this knee injury throughout the season. Colston was very limited in practice in the days leading up to Sunday’s game.

The Saints have not announced any known structural damage to the knee, nor are they likely to at this stage, but Colston has missed time to knee problems in previous seasons. Colston has had several knee procedures over the years, including microfracture surgery on both knees.

While Jimmy Graham continues to dominate receptions and touchdowns from the tight end position, the Saints offense is limited by Colston’s absence and his lack of production. Robert Meachem and Lance Moore posted respectable numbers with Colston out, but again it was Graham who caught both touchdowns and the Saints offense fell short, losing 26-20. It would behoove the Saints to find a healthier balance in the offense going forward and Colston is an integral part of that. The Saints have now lost two of their last three.

We probably won’t know anything more on Colston’s status for this weekend’s game until the practice injury reports roll around later in the week. It could be as simple as the Saints giving the ailing Colston a week of rest, but there’s always concern when a player who has a history of knee injuries is unable to practice for more than a week. This could be a crucial week of practice for Colston and the Saints offense.

Colton hasn't been the same in awhile. Austin Collie was just released. Well, Nevermind.

Think this year is pretty much a write off for colston, he's not going to be 100% healthy this season

I can easily give a productive member of an elite offense a pass for being injured, he never complains about it....... It's got to be killing him not to be out there contributing as well.

Toon needs to step up.. if Morgan wasn't on ir he'd be shining. Colston sitting could be a blessing in disguise. Get healthy for a possible playoff run while giving new guys valuable experience.

Colston not being healthy isn't a concern. Colston, Graham, Moore, Sproles and Ingram all being injured at times during just the first half of the season is concerning.

Not to mention Harper, Jenkins, Walker, Bunkley, Evans, Foster, and even TJohnson.
