Answers the question.

"Jonathan Vima's return to the New Orleans Saints was a short lived one. The linebacker, who has long dealt with injuries to his left knee, was placed on injured reserve Wednesday."

Re: Saints Place Vilma on IR

And we lost Martez on top of that. Wonder was Vilma put on ir because of cb depth or him playing bad.

The Dude 11-06-2013 04:11 PM

Re: Saints Place Vilma on IR

WTF? I dont think he was in long enough for them to conclude he was playing bad. I have long thought that he has enough dirt on the Saints bounty thing that he and the Saints made an agreement to keep him on to collect paychecks as long as they can. Its a shame we lost Wilson. Did he go anywhere else?

Re: Saints Place Vilma on IR

Its a shame to see a once great player struggle like he has the last few years and especially having to see him having his name dragged through the mud last year.I dont see him back next year but either way a player that seems to have alot of respect from his piers in the league.

Good luck to him whatever happens

Well that's probably going to end his career. I thank Vilma for his service to our team and he played lights out for several season with the Saints.

Maybe they'll find a job for him on the staff.

Best of luck to Vilma. A good guy loves the Saints, loves New Orleans, and loves the fans. Im glad at training camp this year i was able to get a autograph and picture taken with him.

Wonder if Butler still has a shot to come back. If this ends Vilma's career then the same must go for smith.

Thankfully we have no need for Smith or Vilma. They both had great runs and are set for life with rings.

Regular-Season PUP

A player who finishes the preseason still on the PUP list can then be placed on the regular-season PUP list. Such players must sit out the first six games their team plays. At that point, teams have a five-week window in which to allow the player to begin practicing; from the day the player begins practicing, teams have an additional 21-day window in which to decide whether to activate the player to the 53-man roster. If either of those deadlines pass, the player must remain on the PUP list for the remainder of the season.[1]

Wow, so he can wait until week 14 to activate or IR him. Wow, thats a lot of rehab time. 7 months of rehab. He could be ready for a postseason run.

Thanks for everything vilma, you were the leader of our defense ever since you signed with us and brought a great attitude to the D

I believe that was his last game as a saint

Happy trails, Vilma! Sorry it had to end this way, but maybe he can stay with the organization as a coach or something. Whatever happens, I hope he is as successful in what he does as he was with the Saints.

Sad reality of NOT FOR LONG league. It is hard to see good player come to the end of the run

Exactly. Sean did right by Jon.

One of the great things about Coach Payton that will never make the headlines.

Sad to see, as that's the last time he plays for us, or probably anybody for that matter. Would like to see him on the staff some where, as he has some good leadership qualities and very smart to boot. Considering all he's done for this organization and put up with in all that Bounty Gate junk, this is one respectable dude.

dueceloose 11-06-2013 06:02 PM

Re: Saints Place Vilma on IR

Not only did he put up with he fought against the bounty stuff and exposed Goddell.. I'll wait till after the season to say goodbye. We still got games to win!

Re: Saints Place Vilma on IR

Well, he'll be a coach now. I wonder if he really was hurt. Perhaps this move was a way to free up his $ over for salary cap purposes.

I think they keep Victor on the shelf until next season & allow that knee to heal properly.

I cant recall where I read it but he is already running and cutting on the knee; getting into "football shape".

Edit: here it is... 2nd paragraph

Thank you JV for your leadership and your passion for the Saints. I think we've seen the last of him but he was a great player for us during iur SB year. Maybe he'll go into coaching?

Thanks for giving us the best of your career JV, hopefully we see you back as a coach.

Re: Saints Place Vilma on IR

The Saints are rich in its short history of outstanding linebackers...

He has the distinction of being the leader of the first defense to win a Superbowl for New Orleans...

He may have been from the "U", but Vilma gets an "A" in my book...

Thank You, Jon Vilma

Re: Saints Place Vilma on IR

By the by, from his Wikipedia bio...

"Along with his success on the field, Vilma was a three-time Academic All-Big East Conference (with) a Bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Miami's School of Business Administration."

That's not Hotel Administration nor Sports Management Studies ladies, that's a degree in Finance - very impressive resume' adding "Champion Linebacker"...

The future arrives for everyone.
Do not wait for it.
Focus on the present and enjoy it.

Not progressing enough to keep him off IR.

It was more in reference to career/long term situations.

That statement from Payton is damage control. Vilma was off IR for what... 8 plays? Then back on.

You are a fine man who lead this team to a Superbowl. Thank you for all that you did for us including standing up to Roger Godhell. Class act.

Re: Saints Place Vilma on IR

On the field, Vilma became the leader of the defense from day one. He was as much of a coach as a player, calling audibles and adjusting defenses on the fly. There's not many players that can do that, let alone do it at the level that Vilma could.

Off the field, I respected the way he stood up for himself with Roger Goodell and didn't just roll over and take it. A lot of players, probably most, would've just accepted what was handed them and hoped for mercy. Vilma put doubt in a lot of peoples minds about the garbage Goodell was trying to sell. Even a federal judge believed Vilma was right and thought the NFL claim was bogus.

I'm sorry to see him go. I'll have to get myself a Vilma jersey.
