so expect Hicks to be fined

For everyone who thought that Books hit was dirty and should be fined, do you think the samething about Hicks?

Re: so expect Hicks to be fined

I don't think it was dirty, but it was illegal, according to the rules. So yes, he'll be fined.

Re: so expect Hicks to be fined

yeah he'll be a little light in the wallet this week.

Hicks should have been penalized. I just don't think the ref was looking right at it unlike the 49ers game.

If all things are equal, he should be fined too.

My gripe with the 49ers is they play dirty then turn to the refs after every play and beg for a flag. I hate that, but as you can tell it's not working so much this season.

I don't think Brooks should have been fined and i don't think hicks should be fined either. Both plays should have drawn a flag thou.

Re: so expect Hicks to be fined

I don't think either one should be fine...niether were intentional or malicious.

Just two guys playing hard...and, yes, I do believe that should have been a penalty on Hicks.

Re: so expect Hicks to be fined

He still removed his hands from his helmet after they made contact. Brooks did not. He threw Brees down to the ground by his head.

Still, both should be flagged. It wasn't far more flagrant though, as Eisen claimed.

SapperSaint 11-22-2013 07:58 AM

Re: so expect Hicks to be fined

Yes. He will get a fine. It should have been a flag but lucky for us, there wasn't one thrown.

The thing that made me mad was that the goons calling the game were like, "OH MY GOD! THAT WAS AS BAD AS THE HIT BROOKS PUT ON BREES! I CAN'T BELIEVE THERE ISN"T A FLAG!

SHUT UP! The point has been made on every sports talk radio and TV show in the entire free world. That was last week and nothing can or will be done about it.

It wasn't even close to being the same clothesline tackle Brooks made.

Re: so expect Hicks to be fined

Oh I know. It just ruffled my feathers when they said that and kept on harping about a flag not being thrown.

Re: so expect Hicks to be fined

Hicks was unintentional. Brooks was determined.

Both are penalties and should have been flagged.

However the maliciousness of Brooks play justified the fine. Hicks won't get near that much, if any at all.

Exactly, well said... twice even.

Exactly, well said... twice even.:p

Can it be fined if it wasn't even called?
If so, does the league need to examine all game tapes looking for potential fines that weren't called by the refs?

1st offense, so he will get $7750, something like that. He should pay it the first day, in cash, just to show Brooks how real men act

Interesting question. I believe the answer is yes though. They did that to Suh one time

However, the nicks hit wasn't anywhere as bad. Plus he made it a point to wrap his arms around ryan once he made contact instead of just following through with the clothesline. I'm borderline on whether it should be a penalty or not.

Re: so expect Hicks to be fined

It was a hit to the head so it should be a penalty by rule. Pretty sure fines follow hits to the head as well.

Yes... happens often.

Re: so expect Hicks to be fined

If Brooks would have went as low as Hicks, it probably would not have been a flag unless, like Hicks (which escaped the refs), he made contact with the facemask/helmet ... but in Goodell's litigious NFL, they're both fines,.

Re: so expect Hicks to be fined

Hicks should just send in a blank check to the NFL now because even though there was no flag he will get a fine, almost once a week that happens to some player

Re: so expect Hicks to be fined

It should have been flagged. It was even more obvious than the hit on Bree's. We got some good calls last night.

This is where I'm at too. It was entirely different.

Still should have been a flag tho, according to the rules, and he'll be fined, as he should be, according to the rules.

For what it's worth, Hicks needs to be commended on his outstanding performance last night. The guy plays angry but within the rules. Face masks penalties will happen.

Budsdrinker 11-22-2013 01:43 PM

Re: so expect Hicks to be fined

Yes it should have been flagged but the difference between Hicks hit and Brooks was Hicks started high coming off of a block but finished with his hands low on skid britches chest when he turned Ryan towards the official. Brooks hit started collar bone high and finished with his hand under Drew's chin strap where the official could see it in plain sight. Again both hits deserved flags but Brooks was more obvious without instant replay.

He and Jordan were in beast mode last night.

Even Dawson and Haralson picked up .5 of a sack. I don't even remember seeing Haralson on the field any...

Re: so expect Hicks to be fined

He may get fined but everyone saying this hit was worse is just crazy. I admit there was some incidental contact to Ryan's helmet as nicks was trying to get a grasp on him but it was very temporary. It's not like grabbed the facemask and proceed to try to rip ryan's head off.

Once again. Penalty? Maybe. Vicious and dangerous as the brooks hit? No. The magnitude of those hits is completely different. I didn't see Ryan spit up any blood after he got hit.

The Dude 11-22-2013 02:59 PM

Re: so expect Hicks to be fined

Just because something looks worse on film doesn't mean it is. If Bree's neck hadn't gone all rubber boy then that would not have even been called. I'm so tired of the pussification of today's qb. Hicks hit was just as illegal as Brooks. The Brees hit just looked worse on film.

I actually agree with you with regards to the hits on qbs. Where I differ is the comparison that nicks hit was worse. There was a lot more force behind the brooks hit (not saying that's a bad thing) and there was a follow through which started from the collarbone up through the neck area. Where as the nicks hit was incidental on the helmet at best and only for a moment before he could wrap ryan up and bring him to the ground. The nfl network guys were acting like nicks bashed ryan over the head with a sledgehammer and then snatched out his soul mortal kombat style.

It would surprise me. There was a big stink made by the guys calling the game and many others. Goodell will cave and issue a fine.
In a way, I hope he does get fined. Enough of this Ahmad Brooks stuff. It's becoming as stale as the Incognito garbage.

Re: so expect Hicks to be fined

I agree that Brooks should be fined, the initial blow was bad and the follow through is what caused the fine (right hand underneath Brees chin)

Hicks even though it was a blatant hand to the face mask it wasn't as nearly as harmful to a player well being or health

yes, you can be fined for a non-penalty call.

Re: so expect Hicks to be fined

Dirty, no. Illegal, yes. At least according to the rules. Yes he should have been flagged. What ticked me off was the announcers would not let it go. They even went so far as to say that it was more flagrant and worse than the hit on Drew. The media must have watched another Saints 9er's game last week in an alternate universe. :lightsabres:

I fully expect Ray "Stabby Murderer" Lewis to pay half of Hicks' fine. It's only fair.

Goldmember 11-22-2013 07:10 PM

Re: so expect Hicks to be fined

What to watch for while reviewing:
First thing Matt Ryan does after the hit is he put both of his hands up asking for a flag.
Drew Brees laid on the ground with 2 saints on top of him after the Brooks hit. Which was obviously much more intense and physical than Hicks' hit on Matt Ryan.

Perhaps if Matt Ryan were more tough, and hadnt inquired for a flag before even standing up, he would have gotten the flag he deserved? Drew was told to "get tough" because a flag was thrown on his hit. Completely unjustified.

I fully expect Bruschi to run his mouth about Ryan's lack of toughness for LITERALLY asking for the flag, where drew brees did no such thing. Drew went out of his way to say that he felt it was not a malicious hit but expected a penalty. Just like Matt Ryan, no? Where you at Tedi? Misplaced hate to the max.

And I also fully expect Ray Lewis to gripe about this passionately just as he did for Brooks. and offer to pay half of Hicks' fine since he is also a defensive player doing everything he can to do his job the right way.

CoreyO 11-22-2013 07:47 PM

Re: so expect Hicks to be fined

The hits were not the same, brooks clothes lined Brees and hicks did more of a facemask grab then transitioned to pulling him down by his shoulders, it wassnt a intense hit but i do agree he should of been flaged for facemask
