What position would you like to see the Saints go for in the draft?

Never too early to start talking about the draft, imo.

I'd like to see us pick up a cornerback in the first round. Jabari Greer's injury really made me realize how poor the depth is at CB. And who knows how Greer will come back from his ACL tear. I think we should assume for the worst and take a CB, because as it stands now, we have nobody behind Keenan Lewis and Corey White. I guess Carr is decent, but he's certainly not ideal and could be upgraded.

Re: What position would you like to see the Saints go for in the first round of the draft?

CB for sure, as well as OC, OT, LB (2), WR

Re: What position would you like to see the Saints go for in the first round of the draft?

O-Line/OLB/CB BPA at one of those spots

I'm guessing that Rob Ryan will get another piece for his defense, like OLB in the first

Re: What position would you like to see the Saints go for in the first round of the draft?

The best player available with the 32nd pick! Who knows how free agency will play out leading up to the draft but I'm watching this Arkansas-Miss. State game right now and this center Travis Swanson for Arkansas is pretty intriguing. It's not a sexy pick but he's currently the #1 center in the upcoming draft and if we don't bring back DLP then he should be an option.

Pretty much agree with you.

I'd like to see our picks turn out like this:

1 - CB
2 - OLB
3 - OG/OC
4 - OT
5 - OLB
6 - WR

Every mock draft I read has us drafting an OLB in the first round and I don't get it. Victor Butler will be back next season and combined with Junior and Parys Haralson it just doesn't seem like a position that needs immediate upgrading.

I'd like to see us targeting one in the second round, but I agree that we have more pressing needs than OLB.

I'd like to see us take Adrian Hubbard, OLB out of Alabama in the second round. The guy is a monster. 6'5, 252 and can run like a deer. He's not a liability in the pass or run game. Rob Ryan would work wonders with him.

You and I know both know we're gonna take the BPA anyway.

But I could see us taking an OLB. Butler is unproven as a starter and there's a bit of the unknown with his knee injury. Junior is above average but not what I'd call pro-bowl quality.

Parys is a SLB and at this stage is more of a two-down OLB.

We could use a young Jack LB for sure. I'd prefer that the BPA when we pick is an OT or CB, but I could live with any positions in the 1st other than QB, RB, FB, TE, K or P.

Hubbard in the 2nd sounds fine with me.

They say the problem with Bama players is that Saban has already gotten the most out of them. There likely won't be a huge "development" jump for his players when they reach the next level. They're kinda like what you see is what you get. We've seen that with his DB's and LB's already.

Obviously they won't suck, but they aren't going to improve dramatically at the next level. I tend to think Bama players are over-rated by about a half-round or more going into the draft.

You know, I was thinking that we don't need an OLB because we hardly ever play in the base 3-4 defense... But then I started thinking that the reason for that might be because we don't have anyone other than Haralson to play SAM and he's getting older.

RD1. OL/CB
RD2. LB/WR

And also think about where our quality/depth is on defense. We look pretty solid at DT, DE, and Safety. OLB and CB not so much.

And with Lofton not being an ideal SILB in a 3-4, you can add ILB to our list of needs.

If the next Aldon Smith, Clay Matthews, Ahmad Brooks or DeMarcus Ware is sitting there, I'm pulling the trigger real quick.

True.. I've never thought of that before. That's a testament to how good of a coach Saban is. I would still like Hubbard though. I don't know about anybody else, but I just can't ignore a player as big and quick as he is.

Re: What position would you like to see the Saints go for in the draft?

I have a bias towards big uglies, large men that can run are rare,DT DE,OT. I think that we need a C,OG however the Saints seem to find gems in the later rds. Swanson is a player that I see going in 3-4 rds.I think that would be a good pick in the 3rd. After saying all this we will probably pick a OLB, DE.Pass rushers are at a premium. CB is another distinct possibility. FA always affects the draft. I don't see us being a big player. WR is another possibility. It is hard to predict where we will go. A late rd pick on QB is something I see as likely..

Re: What position would you like to see the Saints go for in the draft?

OL and WR are the only offensive spots I think need to be addressed. WR are getting older should be at least in the discussion. Other than those spots Think it should be another highly concentrated defensive draft whatever position but CB would be #1 on the list IMO

If there's one worthy of a first round pick still available when the Saints draft, I'd like to see them pick up an offensive lineman, any position. I think the offensive line depth needs some serious attention.

O line, linebacker, corner, and QB

We will draft a QB in the first round either this year or next. My guess would be next.

O-line. Then o-line then o-line again.

This depends on how many years Brees has left.

I don't remember what game it was this year, but one of the commentators said he talked to Brees, and Brees said that he believes he still has 5 years left in him.

If that really is the case, and we can have Brees for another 5, I don't see us drafting his successor this year or next unless we want a situation similar to Favre and ARod.

Re: What position would you like to see the Saints go for in the draft?

I am looking at picking around 28 and expect most of the media darlings gone by the time we pick. listed loosely by round for each position.

- OLB/ILB versatile with coverage skills -

Christian Jones, ILB/OLB/DE, Florida State
6032 232 4.64

ranked as the #1 ILB by some
ranked as the #6 OLB by many
among the best DE in the nation this year.
Arguably the best coverage LB in college
Potential is off the meter - completely going against my nature

Am i really so high on a Fla. St. player? i guess so. brake out the skates hell has officially frozen over.

Yawin Smallwood* ILB/OLB Connecticut
6025 236 4.68
He is a traditional 34 thumper ILB. Coverage skills are solid enough

Telvin Smith OLB/ILB Florida ST
6022 218 4.60
He is a wild man that makes up for size with attitude.

Boseko Lokombo OLB/ILB Oregon

6024 230 4.62/4.52
fantastic all-around athlete very interesting project

- WR that likes running routes in the middle of the field -

Jarvis Landry WR LSU

5114 195 4.49

silky-smooth dual-threat, toughness to go over the middle Love his attitude

Cody Hoffman, WR BYU
6024 215 4.56

Z - a big possession receiver , excellent hands, excels at short and intermediate routes crossing the field and on out routes along the sideline.

Mr Enigma
L'Damian Washington WR, Mizzu
6035 205 4.39/4.30
Calvin Johson build and speed yet lazy route runings. football IQ ?

- OL solid addition to up grade depth/starter -

Morgan Moses, ROT/OG Virginia

6056 325 5.28

going basically un noticed or shown little respect by most of the media scouting darlings. monster of man with outrageous athlete set that has the speed and coordination to pull to the outside like a guard.

Weston Richburg OC/OG/OT Colorado State

6035 302 5.18/5.04
One of the top OC in college over the past three years

Tyler Larsen, OC, Utah State, (#58)

6035 312 5.17

Vyncent Jones OC/OG Utah
6031 305 5.23
Man loves pancakes. Versatile interior lineman.

Matt Hall, OT, Belhaven"Matt Hall"
6085 325 5.38
NFL right tackle written all over him?

-RB that can run catch and block - draft has some nice ones -

James White RB Wisconsin

5096 195 4.52/4.42

here is the darrin sproles of the 2014 draft.

- DL depth -

DeAndre Coleman, DT/DE, California
6045 315 5.12/4.96
strong and suprisingly quick

Shamar Stephen DT/DE Conneticut

6045 313 5.14
impressive quickness and pursuit ability for his size.

Small school steal in the draft?
Zach Kerr, DT, Delaware
6012 322 5.12
size/athletic ability, football IQ and leadership

- Secondary always - not crazy about round 1 opt at CB tackling is key

Ed Reynolds, FS/SS Stanford
6015 206 4.54/4.43
has not declared yet. we need a ball hawk and cap issues may mean we are looking for a cheaper option

Aaron Colvin CB Oaklahoma
5115 192 4.48/4.38
way to much talent to over look at this point in the draft

#1 project player
Stanley Jean-Baptiste CB/WR/S Nebraska #16
6022 220 4.46/4.56
a converted wide receiver with legit ball skills here

Ty Zimmerman, Kansas State FS/SS/WR
6011 204 4.57/4.46
He may not dazzle you but he is a solid all around FS

Small school steal in the draft?
Jordan Love, CB, Towson
5116 182 4.53/1.42
He’ appears to be a pure corner with excellent man-to-man cover skills at this level. interesting upside with the kid

just to name the main ones that have caught my eye for the draft that kinda adress area of need in my book. there are others but trying to keep it short ;)

I don't think drafting a WR in the first round is a good idea, they are pretty much hit or miss, I don't know if you guys have forgotten but we get Joe Morgan back next year. He was looking to have a big year before he tore his ACL. It depends how far Terron Armsted has grown as an NFL OL, so either OT, OLB, or CB in the first round

Schmohams 11-23-2013 05:02 PM

There is only 5 Hall of Fame WR selected in the first round, there is 4 in the fourth round

I agree we don't need a WR in the first round or second but I think drafting one is a area on offense that can be looked for in the draft possibly 3rd rd.

Corner and OL or LB is the spots I see needed in rounds 1 and 2

A true ILB could go a long way, a safety and the rest for the O. Payton will shore up the O-line for Brees to do his thing in this draft, his turn.

Re: What position would you like to see the Saints go for in the draft?

I think the real question is what position needs an upgrade the most and to me that's center. DLP can get dominated at times that can really hurt when we try to pound it inside.

CB is kind of thin too.

We're going to take the best player we can get with the first pick and it isn't till later in the draft that they'll start trying to fill needs. We know that they're pretty good at finding hidden gems but you can't count on that.

(1) Outside Linebacker

(2) Offensive Tackle

(3) Offensive Center

(4) Wide Receiver

(5) Offensive Guard

(6) Kicker

One thing that occurred to me is that Brady and Manning are both older than Brees and neither have looked like they have lost a step. Hell Manning even looks to be better. You never hear anyone saying that they are too old. If Brees wants to go another 5 years hells to the yea!
What I don't want to see is him go out on a steady decline not wanting to let go of the game. I want to see him go out on top.
I also think that when Brees hangs them up so will Payton.

an act of god would would be need to have them fall into our laps.

i am really starting to move

Christian Jones, ILB/OLB/DE, Florida State

up my board. He has more flexibility at the second leave than just about any other player but CJ. The only fear is he has bounced around so much it may take a bit longer for him to settle into a position in the nfl. if i draft on upside he is my pick

Trent Murphy as a 34 DE he is the best run stuffer. as a pass rusher he is plays under control and stays in his lane better than anyone. he is a beast in my book. long gone before we pick i fear

Obviously the Saints will probably keep working on the defense, but you know they may take a shot at an offense player early on. If available, watch out for Austin Seferian-Jenkins.
