glad we beat our (yawn) division rival - but THE BOOT got nothing? NOTHING?
They did mention it toward the very end of the game.
I'll trade that record for a statement victory tonight.

Re: And the Record Falls

Thanks Halo - I appreciate you letting me know it got something. 43 years damn it - now on to the below sea level argument, HA. Sorry I know I care too much but I do really care. - would have hurt more if we lost tonight.

You are very mistaken if you think that media talking heads pay attention to any of this kind of thing regarding the Saints.

Re: And the Record Falls

@ Saints Bro: No I am not mistaken - I note that they are not taking note. Nor are we. (even more sadly) that's all... glad we won tonight.

At one point it was all we had - and how long it stood. That in and of it self deserves a note -

CAN I GET A WHO DAT?

for one old timer who never thought this young team would ever have old timers?

Re: And the Record Falls

WHO DAT!!!!!!!!

Not to bring up crap, but wind fell out my sails on this when Raiders and Janikowski refuted that they had actually beat the record in 2011. AND, they did NOT let that argument go without a fight. Using a little fuzzy math and some creative thinking somehow got Janikoski the record in the minds of some of their fans, and also got some Oakland members banned from here if I remember correctly....

Was Sebastian Janikowski's 63-Yard Field Goal The NFL's Longest 63-Yarder?

WWLTV posted this from the AP. Will see this week if local news posts some pieces on it

This piece was sad. Tom dealing with dementia. He's only 66 which is pretty young.

Congrats to Tom for holding the record for so long. I think it lasted so long because kicks beyond 60 are INSANE and mathematics say just heave the ball down the field for a TD. Unlike the other kicks that came before half-time, Dempsey kicked his to WIN THE GAME! I think we were just INSANE enough of an organization in 1973, a year we stunk badly, that we would take a win anyway we could get it, even if it meant risking a 63 yard field goal!!!

That kick put us in the NFL stat book and was the ONLY record a Saints player or the Saints held of significance for a long time. It has been mentioned in the NFL hall of fame since it happened.

Re: And the Record Falls

I don't consider a big game against a division rival to be a yawn.

Fact is, records get broken. I always thought of Dempsey's as an anomaly of our history. He played just 2 seasons, and was a below average kicker on a below average team. The 'kick' gave us our second win that year.

We have accomplished a lot in the past 15 years- Dome Patrol, Brees surpassing Archie as face of the franchise, playoff wins, and a Super Bowl ring. Dempsey, Abramowicz and others will always have a place in our history, but now we have a winning history

Re: And the Record Falls

i was in the stands for "The Kick" that was my first and most exciting moment ever at a game. it deserves a big * next to it. big difference in kicking locations and rule changes. but all records fall and the leagues make no effort to educate fans as to the differences in the records. shame.
