Corey White Progression

I liked this guy a lot as a nickel corner. When Greer went down, I knew it was going to take a little while for White to transition to the outside and he was going to go through some growing pains. I think he is finally starting to get it. take a look at this quote from PFF:

https://www.profootballfocus.com/blo...ars-week-14-2/

"He was one of three starting cornerbacks to not allow a reception on Sunday, with a pass breakup and two incompletions coming from the three passes into his coverage. That gave him perfect Yards Per Coverage Snap and Coverage Snaps Per Reception averages of 0.0. The pass breakup came on 1st-and-20 with 14:28 left in the game, with White getting him arm between receiver Ted Ginn and the ball on a hitch route. It all added up to White having the highest graded game of his career, playing at a level the Saints will be hopeful he can maintain down the stretch."

I like the fact that the Saints have multiple defenders getting good press for a change. We're used to reading great things about the Saints' O. Now with the D getting attention it makes opponents game planning even harder.

Re: Corey White Progression

The best way for me to explain my progression of players is to grade them on a Madden scale. So this is my thoughts.

Corey White: (99 being the highest for those who don't know.)

(Beginning) 2013 Season: 74 Overall
(Currently) 2013 Season: 81 Overall
(Prediction) 2014 Season: 90 Overall

I always thought he was great in a man to man coverage. But I also think he's improved a little in zone. He's an excellent tackler, and he's strong. That's why they thought he'd be a great strong safety. He can lay the wood. But his speed, he's fast. I'd give him a 93 or 94 in speed.

Keenan Lewis:
(Beginning) 2013 Season: 87 Overall
(Currently) 2013 Season: 90 Overall
(Prediction) 2014 Season: 91 Overall

He's really coming in to his own. I never see him truly get burned, so either his speed is underrated or he takes good angles as far as cutting of the path of the deep ball.

Malcolm Jenkins:
(Beginning) 2013 Season: 75 Overall
(Currently) 2013 Season: 85 Overall
(Prediction) 2014 Season: 88 Overall

He looks more comfortable with Vacarro and Rob Ryan there. We don't see near as many deep blown coverages. What I like about him being a safety is the fact truthfully, he can still come down and play man to man on receivers and tight ends. It may not be at an elite level for a cornerback, but it is at an elite level for a safety.

Kenny Vacarro:

(Beginning) 2013 Season: 78 Overall
(Currently) 2013 Season: 85 Overall
Prediction 2014 Season: 93 Overall

I think we'll see leaps and bounds from him next year, as we've already seen from him this year. He makes a big play or two every game. That's what you want to see. We don't have to call his name out often, because he's not really getting put into bad situations. I really believe in Vacarro.

I went ahead and did the starting four of the secondary eventhough I was only going to do White, but the reason being I feel like we'll have one of the top 3 secondaries in the NFL next year...only definitively behind Seattle. I believe we can top San Francisco when Patrick Robinson comes back and another year of development from Rapheal Bush.

Re: Corey White Progression

Patrick Robinson is a had sell. injury history makes him replaceable but i could understand the saints trying him for another year. he has shown some serious promise. right now white has his spot on the roster and Pat has a fight on his hands. i would love to see the saint take a risk on the second day of the draft and get a CB with size to develop like they did with white.

Re: Corey White Progression

I really like his physicality and risk taking. He needs to work on his off coverage and his ball skills but so far he's steadily getting better and thats all that matters.

Re: Corey White Progression

Its amazing how much better players play when they're placed in a scheme that fits their skillset.

OK, maybe its not as amazing as it is common sense.

Its also why Dallas sucks so bad. They have mostly 3-4 press personnel being forced to play in a 4-3 Tampa-2 system. Spagnola ring a bell?

Even a caveman could have predicted that would fail.

How come us average Joe's can see that yet highly paid NFL GM's can't?

Its easy to roast a cover 2. You need so much for it to be successful. You can kill it between the safeties or between the corner and the safety. Dallas was dumb to switch to that. They should let us get Mo Claiborne. He'd be great with us.
