Sean Payton puts all Saints on notice

The New Orleans Saints 27-16 loss to the St. Louis Rams was not as competitive as the score indicates

The Rams dispatched a thorough and confident beating that placed the NFC South title up-for-grabs when the Saints visit the Carolina Panthers during Week 16.

The Saints have had an incredibly hard time winning games on the road and the Panthers appear to be ready to assume the top spot.

The size of the task at hand is not lost on coach Sean Payton who told the Associated Press that he told his soldiers that changes will be made.

“Listen, I think we’re looking closely at every element,” Payton said.”You know, I told the players today in the team meeting we’re looking closely at each aspect of this team.”

“I just think it’s important for us to do that,” Payton continued. “Whether it’s the tackle position, whether it’s a player on defense … we’re going to look closely at what our options are and what gives us the best chance.”

“It’s our job with an important game coming up to make corrections and then also to look closely at whom we are asking to do certain things,” he said.

The rebounding coach was short and terse when describing how he felt on Monday.

“It’s a tough day when you come back off a game like that,” Payton said.

Payton’s quarterback Drew Brees stated that a simpler offensive gameplan may provide the spark that the Saints need to keep it moving.

“By doing that, I think you allow guys to play faster, play with more confidence,” Brees said. “Also, too, it’s a bit of a mentality. … It’s just establishing that feeling that when we do get down, we’re never out. We are built to be able to overcome any scenario or situation like that. But we’ve got to go out and do it.”

If they don’t “do it” the Saints will drop a shot at the division title on their way to the Wild Card round.

That's funny. Play calling is much better than last year still. But watching the game was painful. Short pass on 1st down. Run for no gain on 2nd. Over and over and over. They finally started 1st down running after the game was out of control.

The Saints are 10-4 with a good shot to win the division and the #2 seed and an outside shot to go 12-4 and take the #1 seed.

I don't have a problem with Coach P's play calling because it has worked this year. Now it doesn't mean that I agree with everything he does or calls. Just that I have confidence that it will work "most of the time", which is all you can ask.

Everyone calling for Carmichael to take over play calling would be begging for Payton to take over if he called a **** game.

Make the adjustments needed to win and get us into the playoffs. That's all I care about and I'm confident it will happen.

And no, I'm not scared of Cam and the Kittens. I think we have this game and Coach will deliver.

After the 1/2 time onside kick in the SB the man has earned the right to call "illogical to us" plays.

I certainly don't like the "hey Drew, throw it into triple coverage" play. That one sucks.

I also hate the "hey Harley, hook it 20 yards left" play. Horrible play.

Also hate the "hey O-line, let the Defense surround our RB 3 yards behind the LOS" play. Thats my least favorite one.

Re: Sean Payton puts all Saints on notice

That second pic Drew threw to Graham in the end-zone, into triple coverage, was quite possible one of the worst pics I have ever seen Drew throw.
