This Years Draft

Well here I go again talking about this years draft be fore the season is half way over. Anyway this is my thing who would you take with the first couple of pick the Saints have (I know that we can't give an accurate draft scenario but lets try anyway. I know that we are in need at the O-line, but I would rather see us address it in free agency. These are just two of the guys that the Saints should have a real shot at this year. And I will tell you why I like them.

Ahmad Brooks - 6'4" 250lbs and runs a 4.6 great OLB. He has even returned kicks in college. We could put him and strong side, put Courtney in the middle, and put Bockwaldt on the weak side and we would have a young talented and fast LB group for years to come.

Marlin Jackson - 6'1" 199lbs and runs 4.4 solid CB who plays the run well and is good in coverage. He is big and physical and fast, would love to have this guy. Have him come in and learn from MM just like Fakhir needs to do we could have a shut down set of corners in 2 years time.

My other CB pick would be Carlos Rodgers I just like the way he plays the game.

dude....slow down man...who knows if any of these kids will even be healthy the time the draft comes?
....don\'t get your hopes too high too soon...besides..we suck at the draft

At linebacker, I\'d take Mitchell over Turner any day. Last year I had asked if Lehman was the OU linebacker that ran in the 4.3/40, but after having my head handed to me by an OU alum friend of mine, I was informed that it was Mitchell.

Not really, but ok. You judge a draft by the first three rounds, and I\'ll judge a draft by the last four, to determine whether or not we suck.

to be honest...until we get new guys in the front office...and coaches..yes..we will continue to bomb on draft day..last good pick we had..heck..only good pick we\'ve had in 5 years..deuce..of course..this years crop is yet to be determined...couple of possible playmakers...but nothing spectacular yet...argue that all you want..but..its just a fact..

Nothing spectacular? How about Charles Grant, LaCharles Bentley(pro bowl), Darren Howard, Courtney Watson just to name a few. The saints dont have problems drafting talent under Haslett, but they have problems developing that talent out of some players.

dude..watson has yet to even playa full year..one player on offense..and basically one on defense...bentley..grant...what good does it do to draft talent..if you can\'t coachthem?..whats worse..they get ruined by the coaching they do get...i haven\'t seen this weak of a defense ever...we stink on d..plain and simple..out offense is real hit and miss..and our o line is allready showing signs of slowing..we aren\'t even halfway through the year...and they\'re talking about realeasing hasslet...its like watching a train wreck...this year is a bust man...bad too...we just have to hope next year..we can begin to start over..and get it right

And this is what you are basing your argument on? Why draft talent if we can\'t coach it? Your original argument was we can\'t draft talent, what is this? An addendum to your previous argument?
People, when you throw out your hot sports opinions, and claim that they are factual, without any further evidence, do you actually expect everyone else to agree just because you made the claim?
I\'m done, this is silly.

Well, there have certainly been some draft blunders as well. In particular, the Sullivan disaster comes to mind - that was two first round picks... Stinchcomb has yet to play a game, and people are wondering if he\'ll ever fit in at guard or tackle, getting labeled as a tweener. Cie Grant, though not a particlularly awful player, is spending his career on the injured list. But the Sullivan debacle, that was high-profile. And it\'s not flattering.

We are good at the draft. Sullivan is the only guy to prove that wrong. Grant (Cie) hasn\'t proven anything so I can\'t put him in that group.

Ch. Grant was called a bust after his rookie year and I heard all sorts of folks calling us stupid for that pick. Now he\'s a beast, on his way to the pro bowl and we need to lock him up forever in Black and Gold. Jury still out on Stallworth.

Our late round picks have been great. They give us depth and youthful energy. Remember how strapped for man power we were after the Ditka Debacle?

For my picks I\'m going to say Winston from Miami or Munoz from Tenn. in the first round. Okla. also has a damn good tackle you should keep an eye on. Peterson don\'t run like that without help. Just can\'t think of his name.

Guess I think our O-line could use new blood. Peace out Riley.

My nine month old just asked me why I was so upset.

I said, \"Venturi Sucks\"

She said, \"True, true\".

I would like to see them pik a cornerback this year. They most likely will pick another DT though as always.

what good would it do to draft any decent or otherwise person to this team with this coaching?...unlike math..two negatives do not make a positive in football..haslett cannot coach this team...niether can venturi...and the talent is on the bench...cie grant has played what?..one game in two years...and you don\'t call that a bust?..stallworth may be fast and all..but he has yet to play a full year...it isn\'t just about potential..it\'s about results.

BiggPoppaFro3 10-28-2004 06:22 PM

Actually....well no, you\'re right. These last 2 drafts have had me scratching my head. I understand taking Will Smith. I like that pick. He\'s strong, fast, smart and keeps us from having to pay a ton to keep Howard. Who, BTW looks to be going the way of Joe Johnson. Watson, Karney, Bockwoldt, Holland, Gardner and Stinchcomb should also pay off for us. That\'s not a bad pay out when you look at the rounds some of them were chosen.

The system is obviously what is broken. Venturi (who sucks) can\'t train these guys b/c he doesn\'t know what he\'s training them for. Are they run stopping LBs or drop-to-cover ones. Does the line rush alone, or get help to pressure since they are so relatively young. Half the time our secondary looks like they thought they were in a zone, then at the last second try and switch to man or cluster-f***.

Haz CAN coach. That\'s evident by the turnaround he pulled in 2000. I think he just tried to be too hands off for too long. Thankfully he\'s back to calling the D shots now. If it works, I say keep him. If not, dump the lot of them like that psycho girl/boyfriend you used to have. (don\'t lie. you know the one...)

While I was changing my nine-month old\'s dirty diaper she said \"look, I made a Venturi!\"

She\'s such a good girl....
