How do you feel about mark ingram now?

I know this is probably repetitive to see, but how do you guys feel about mark Ingram with the way he runs and if we can get a better push on the o-line do you think he can be a starter (1000+ rusher) next year?

New Orleans will not have a 1000 yard rusher as long as Sean Payton is coach.

I feel about the same as I always have.

Re: How do you feel about mark ingram now?

I look forward to seeing him against Tampa Bay in the Dome in two weeks, ESPECIALLY if we are resting Pierre and Sproles, but beyond that .... not sure.

As far as the way he runs, I like him MUCH better recently, it's been like someone lit a fire under him. Got to stop spinning and spiking the ball, though. This is the NFL, just leave it there or give it to the ref.

If the Tampa game becomes meaningless it would be REALLY interesting to just put Ingram out there, sink or swim, give him a really heavy workload, see what he can do as a "conventional" feature back....let other teams see it as well.

I know a lot of people liked Chris Ivory and I liked him too, he was fun... but I've had one of those weird "flash" time travel moments where I saw into the future, I saw the 2015-16 Saints and beyond, and I'm convinced Khiry Robinson is Pierre Thomas 2.0 -- just give him a couple of years to grow. Running the screen, blocking for Drew, scrambling through holes when there are none, powerful runner, fighting, never giving up -- I believe he can do all that, just give him time to grow into it.

Sometimes Sproles and PT will create something out of nothing. I'll just leave it at that.

The man has a wicked stiff arm, but no leg drive whatsoever. I think Reggie had more power in his legs. I say drop him, keep Robinson, and use Pierre more.

Re: How do you feel about mark ingram now?

I don't know i think ingram can and should be the starter. Him and thomas run hard every play even when there no where to go. I say give him the work load or atleast give him and thomas more carries then usual. Also we used a first rounder on him .

Re: How do you feel about mark ingram now?

Think he would work great on a team that features a fullback lead blocker. Do not think he has the sight to see the holes unless a fullback leads him into it. Like San Francisco or the Giants.., say we trade him and get some offensive line help!

Not as long as the Saints keep as many RBs as we do, plus throwing the ball as much as we do.

I will never question his heart.. over the last few weeks, he has run the ball better and with more authority. He is still a member of this team and I'm pulling for him to succeed 100%.

Que' sera sera.

Re: How do you feel about mark ingram now?

Mark Ingram is potentially a great RB, but unfortunately I doubt he will ever reach his potential playing for the Saints. The Saints should do him a favor and move him after the season is over.

Whether we have 1 1000 yard back or 4 250 yard backs the end result is the same. 1000 yards rushing.

You misunderstood my reply. I put absolutely zero credence in "we need a 1000 yard running back".

Sean Payton was burned at the end of a season searching for RBs he will never have a 1000 work horse that will leave him hanging again.

He spreads the ball, no one gets enough carries for 1000 yards

Re: How do you feel about mark ingram now?

Ingram is a Baller. He's an old school back being that he wont flash on his first 3 or 4 carries but as time goes on and you continue to give him the ball he gets stronger. The one time we gave him decent blocking he averaged better than a first down per carry. Most people here are fans , however for those that study film and have played at a high level even coached , know he is one or two Pro Bowl O lineman away from taking us to the next level.

Re: How do you feel about mark ingram now?

He's still a bust as a pick; and as I've said, the blame is on coaching, front office and Mark Ingram...

Trading back into that spot, Henry Hindsight will tell you we could have had...LB Akeem Ayers, DL Muhammad Wilkerson (My preferred pick), DL Cameron Heyward, DE/OLB Brooks Reed...

Or we could have picked a RB in the second round that was just as productive (used) and kept the following year first round pick allowing Goodell to take that pick and have kept the two second round picks we were penalized...

But keep trying Mark, maybe we'll evenutally use you and you'll gain yards after contact before you leave for Miami or NYG and subsequently break out...

Re: How do you feel about mark ingram now?

MI's just in the wrong system. He needs a lot of carries as a #1 back to reap the success that he saw in college.

I didn't like Reggie Bush's production when he was here. He probably did all that east/west running cuz he knew he wasn't gonna touch the ball 20 times a game and wanted to make the most out of every carry. He's much more productive now in Detroit.

Receiving leaders (RBs)
Mark Ingram 5 -58 -11.6

I dont believe he is a bust or sucks... mediocre RB? Definitely.

For statistical purposes, you may want to calculate the average of a sample excluding its highest and lowest values. This gives you a lessor skewed result.

I took away his best game and his worst game Dallas and Carolina this season this removed a game with 10.36 YPC and a game with 1.33 YPC.

Rushing 2013
45 attempts 134 yards.
2.9 YPC for <----Heavily skewed from 4.56 YPC for all games.

Rushing 2012
136 Attempts 499 yards
3.66 YPC < -----not much of a change from 3.86 YPC for all games

Rushing 2011
101 Attempts 372 yards
3.68 YPC < -----not much of a change from 3.89 YPC for all games

His pass blocking efficiency is 82.7, that is the lowest on the team. He has allowed 2 hits, 1 hurry, and 3 pressures in 13 pass blocking snaps.

Ingrams drop rate on passes is 16.67, the highest on the team. of 7 targets, 6 were catchable, 5 receptions and 1 drop.

Yards after Contact per attempt:
#1 Robinson 2.4
#2 PT 2.3
#3 Ingram 2.2

Only RB on the team with any penalties Ingram - 2

You really do a good job at breaking things down. I don't always look at the stats because of 1 game might make things look much better than what things overall really are. But in fairness you took the best and worst off the board. Thanks for your work. Now go back to work!!

Agreed, I wasn't trying to say Ingram is the equivalent of Emmitt Smith, but I think its obvious he doesn't suck and he isn't a bust. I think that's absurd.

He's slightly miscast in our offense and would probably have more success elsewhere, as have a few of our other former RB's

TheOak 12-20-2013 10:05 AM

Re: How do you feel about mark ingram now?

My opinions are the polar opposite from some peoples because yards/season is fairly irrelevant to me.

500 carries and 1000 yards is 2.0 YPC and I do not find that indicative of a good running back.

200 carries and 1000 yards is 5.0 YPC and that is a dam fine season.

I would take Andre Ellington with 94/558 over Chris Johnson with 230/860 for the Saints any day.

Miscast in our offense. Haven't we said that about nearly every RB not named Sproles or Thomas?

Re: How do you feel about mark ingram now?

i never like the move in the draft and try to leave that price tag out of it.

it the system. RB have to a complete package. run catch block as pointed out here. they do not need to be dominate in any one phese of the game but need to be good at them all. PT is perfect but SP refuses to believe it. that the type of RB we should draft.

Ingram needs a ton carries in a ground oriented offense before i judge bust our not. he aint going to get that workload here.

So if the offers is right and a RB in the draft is on the board i say pull the trigger and make the trade and get another well rounder RB. Charles Sims RB West Virgina looks to be the most dynamic impact player that can run and catch. the pass blocking is solid but does need work.

Do both parties a favor. Ingram gets his carries and the saints get a solid draft choice which right now i would guess a third.
