This is why Malcolm Jenkins isn't going anywhere

In 2013, his stats were:
68 tackles, 2.5 sacks and 2 interceptions. Plus as I've stated many times he is adept at covering both Tight Ends and Wide Outs. Please stop with the ridiculous notion that he will either be released or traded.

He's a free agent... He just simply won't be resigned. Dare I say, we could actually get someone who can play free safety.

Well he's an upcoming FA, so we could just decide not to resign him. Honestly hope that is what we do. He may get a decent amount of tackles, but face it, he's not good in coverage. And that is a free safety's main responsibility.

Rafael Bush is better, who is also an upcoming FA. I hope we resign Bush. He's better AND cheaper, just a win-win situation there. Bush and Vaccaro would be a sick safety duo.

I'm okay with Jenkins being on the team, but not at his current salary.

Last year was sign a handful of decent-below average players with low salaries and try them out, and sign one key guy (Kennan Lewis.) I think this year will be similar.

Re: This is why Malcolm Jenkins isn't going anywhere

Jenkins is currently the 14th highest paid safety in the NFL.

Harper is currently the 19th highest paid safety in the NFL, but comes with 3.7million dead money.

Cutting Harper frees up only 2.2 million, and you have to replace him.

So basically keeping Harper in 2014 is the equivalent of signing a 2 million safety on the team, which is basically glorified back-up money for a starting safety.

I doubt you can sign a better SS for 2 million than what we already have in Harper.

I doubt someone would trade for Harper either, just use him right RR, he can be used to rush the QB.
