New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees continues to quietly make history this year. This time, Brees has been awarded the NFC offensive player of the week title for his performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 17 — which bumps him past Dan Marino on the all-time list for the award.

Brees now ranks third all-time in player of the week honors. Only Peyton Manning and Tom Brady have more than Brees. Our friend Larry Holder of NOLA.com has the details:

Brees went 24 of 31 passing for 381 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions computing to a near-perfect 157.4 quarterback rating. It’s the third time this season Brees has been dubbed the conference’s offensive player of the week having been honored in Weeks 4 and 10.

It’s also Brees’ 19th career player of the week award passing Dan Marino (18) for third most in league history. Peyton Manning (26) and Tom Brady (24) are the only two players with more than Brees.

Solo awards mean little now that the Saints are getting ready to hit the road and dance with the Philadelphia Eagles, but it is a nice honor to cap off what was a very impressive year for Brees.

Week 17 was just another day at the office for Brees. As usual, he was rewarded for his efforts in kind.
