Saints have players that know what it takes to win road playoff game

But there are individuals on the roster who have experienced triumph on the road in the playoffs, veterans who say the Saints (11-5) have what it takes to win at Lincoln Financial Field.

“First and foremost, you’ve just got to know that the intensity level goes up,” said left guard Ben Grubbs, who this season earned his second Pro Bowl berth.

Grubbs was a Baltimore Raven from 2007-11, and helped his team win road playoff games in Miami and Tennessee in 2008, against in New England in 2009 and at Kansas City in 2010.

“The fact that if you lose and you go home – it’s a big deal,” Grubbs said. “The focus picks up, the intensity, the enthusiasm – you’ve just got to carry all of that on the road when you win. I think that’s what we’re going to do.

“We’ve got a new step to our walk, we’re changing up some things, we’re going to go in there believing that we are a good team and we have what it takes to win.”

The difference on the road is that brees throws dumbass picks and we completely abandon the run, thats why we lose games away from home

I would say the turnovers are a helluva bigger reason for losing on the road than not running!

In the Pats and Carolina game it killed us that we couldn't rush for a couple first downs to end the games.

Conventional wisdom, and subsequently what the Saints want to do, is rush for those first downs so they don't risk killing the clock with an incompletion.

True; it is a double-edged sword.

Is getting the 1st down more important than the clock stopping if it is incomplete.

Don't call double reverses or screen plays to a 3rd string TE, especially if it is 4th down!

Drew needs to set the bar, Drew at home: 27 TD 3 INT, Drew away 12 TD 9 INT, and a defensive touchdown to swing momentum would be nice.

You really have to look at Drew in the playoffs though, he at a whole different level when it matters:

Quote:

The Saints largely have gone and gotten it since Brees arrived – a Super Bowl victory, two NFC championship game appearances, five playoff berths in eight seasons, three NFC South titles and five 10-plus win seasons, for a franchise that previously had one playoff victory and two division titles to its credit.

He has completed 231 of 349 passes for 2,661 yards and 20 touchdowns, with three interceptions, in eight playoff games as a Saint. Overall, he’s at 262 of 391 for 2,980 yards and 22 touchdowns, with four interceptions.
