Teams would only get the 2 challenges they already have.

Re: Question for the Forum

i say 2 challenges per game. You win the challenge, you get to keep that challenge. when you are out, you are out. Still have booth challenges w/ on TD's/TO's and inside @ minutes of half and game. But you want to waste one on a penalty, fire away. Most penalties are so judgmental, doubt they'd get much action. Might give some credence to the "always the last guy caught" scenario, but what the hell. 2 per game, anything goes.

Pretty much the way it is now. The possibility of getting a 3rd challenge if first 2 are successful seems to be keeping coaches from spending them like a drunk sailor on leave!

Re: Question for the Forum

I'm pretty sure I remember a story, where there was one time when Payton challenged the SPOT OF THE BALL, on a routine play, and everyone was like "huh? What is he doing?" It was just like a boring ordinary two yard run or something, and suddenly "New Orleans is challenging the spot of the ball." But what Payton was really up to was, he had noticed that one of the defenders was lining up with his hand in the neutral zone, he had been doing it all during the drive or all during the game. So Payton basically burned the challenge to chew out the ref, and made him go under the hood and look at the play, see the formation, and see the guy's hand in the neutral zone, and I want you to call it next time he does it. A couple of plays later, out came the flag, neutral zone infraction, first down Saints!

But more on topic, the other thing that won't work about challenges on personal fouls - the thing that the replay camera can't tell you is what somebody said. Some officials allow loads of loose smack talk, and others are like, good Biblical Christian men who run a tight military-style ship, you can't say anything on the field you wouldn't say in front of your momma. I thought the Strief call could maybe have been for something he said to the guy, or for something ELSE he did earlier, that wasn't visible in the replay. Sometimes officials will give a warning across the bow, or tell somebody to stop doing something, and if the player doesn't react the right way, out comes the flag.

I agree with this. That is the only penalty I wouldn't mind being reviewable. I don't think the refs know what a real pi is anymore. Heck I'm still struggling with what is or isn't a catch.

I mean, they could challenge just about anything, including penalties. Doubt many would as I said. Could be hard to overturn something like illegal contact since it happens on virtually every to a degree and holding.
