Free Agency

I know it's early but any realistic free agent targets from other teams you guys think the Saints should target ?

Re: Free Agency

I think Hakeem Nicks would be a great pickup. He would serve as another strong receiver to complement Marques and Jimmy. He has had a down year, so hopefully we could get him on the cheap.

Re: Free Agency

Far too expensive and far too injury prone.

Re: Free Agency

Evan Dietrich-Smith, the center from Green Bay. I also wouldn't mind to see Johnathan Goodwin back in a Saints jersey.

Both are upcoming FAs.

Re: Free Agency

While also trying to be realistic with my wishes, I would say that this team would be greatly set up going into the draft if we managed to grab 2 FAs out of the following guys (In descending order):

Jared Allen DE MIN:
I could see him taking less $ to get one last SB chance. Can you imagine the pass rush with him and Cam Jo?

Walter Thurmond CB SEA:
Pair him up with Keenan Lewis and you have a fantastic young, physical CB duo.

Kenny Britt WR TEN:
Has all the talent in the world but motivation is key. Who are better motivators than Payton/Brees? Could be a steal because I could see many young teams not willing to risk the headache.

Anthony Spencer OLB DAL:
Had a down year but did well with Rob Ryan. Could come with discount after ending season on IR. Could also see him taking a pay cut to play for contender.

James Ihedigbo S BAL:
Would like him in the Black and Gold if we choose not to reup Jenkins.

The FS from Buffalo, Byrd, he will more than likely want big money.

Realistically?

No clue. It all starts with re-signing Graham and it trickles down from there. Who knows how much money we're going to have to work with. I'm just glad we finally have all our draft picks back and we don't seem to have any big gaping holes at the moment that will require big patching up to do.

We can not afford 3/4 of the people names in this thread. Lots of high dollar players.

Nothing Free about Free Agency

Re: Free Agency

I would like to see Michael Ohr or however you spell it. He could start on either side of the line and while I think Armstead is a servicable backup I dont know if I want him protecting Drew on a regular basis. He may come a little cheaper than people think.
I would also like to see a Lb and Corner, either or.
We can address OL, CB, and maybe get a WR in the later rounds. I think we are in a little bit better shape at receiver than a lot of people think with Stills and Morgan in the mix.

Im curious when we will draft an earlier round QB. It is going to have to happen eventually. If its not this draft it will be next. The Patriots already got their man from Arkansas being groomed like Rodgers was. I would like for Brees legitimate successor to learn from him for 3-4 years befor he takes over.

I don't see us drafting a replacement for Drew, we will get our next starting QB the way we got this one. Free Agency.

Probably a handful of people we've never heard of and possibly 1 or 2 starters.

Re: Free Agency

Ben Tate would be awesome too, but I doubt that will happen. He will get paid big bucks. I like the Walter Thurmond idea.

Re: Free Agency

Worth keeping a eye on?

Centers
Alex Mack Browns
Evan*Dietrich-Smith Packers

Safties
TJ Ward Browns
Chris Clemon Dolphins

ILB
Vinny Rey Bengals
Donald Butler Chargers

CB
*Allterraun Verner Titans
Tarel Brown 49ers
Walter Thurmond

Id like to see Haralson re-signed or Jo-Lonn Dunbar brought back to offer depth behind Junior and Butler

Alex Mack and Alterraun Verner will be too much money.

- Mack is arguably the best center in the league, and we can't afford to pay top money for anybody.

- VERY much like Keenan Lewis this season, Verner is also an unbelievably underrated cornerback. I think he'll get a nice contract as well.

I would absolutely love to see Dietrich-Smith or Walter Thurmond in a Saints jersey though.

Good list. I was just talking about Thurmond. Spencer would be a good move too. Britt? **** yeah. I like everyone on the list.

+1, at a discount?...I would love Spencer in New Orleans.
