Josh Hill

On that over the head catch did he not look like a slightly smaller version of jimmy graham. Not bad for a rookie undrafted player out of idaho state. At 6-5/250 with 4.6 speed also good on special teams.:beatnik:

He's got potential. I can't wait to see how he develops.

Re: Josh Hill

The other big ufda TE who was in 2013 traing camp out of LA Monroe made on the Browns 53 roster.

I like Hill. He played better than Graham did or should I say Mr. Invisible.

Re: Josh Hill

If Josh Hill works hard in off season by next year i look for a lot of two TE plays this also should help jimmy be harder to double team him.I think watson provides the veteran leadership.

dueceloose 01-11-2014 11:57 PM

Re: Josh Hill

My brother yelled out jimmy when he caught that catch so yes hes definitely a mini jimmy and I'm sure hill would be held with no catches if he was being double covered and having safety jumping over his back.

hennr 01-12-2014 12:08 AM

Re: Josh Hill

Yep Drew should have went to Hill more he was not being double teamed a mugged all day.In off season the Refs need to be told to crack down on teams like seahawks an Carolina.kinda lot they were told by old roger to do so as the one team in the playoffs with a studd TE was the saints.

I think each Ref team is different,,,some call em tight, some swallow their whistles. I think the need for more consistency is the issue.

Re: Josh Hill

Maybe he has potential, however, correct me if I'm wrong, but I recall hill dropping a bunch of passes this year. He dropped at least as many as he caught. Including one drop yesterday before that big play.

This. It seems to me around mid season teams like the two you mentioned started getting away with mauling the stud TE's like Tony G. and Gronk they started doing it every game. I'm all for letting the players play because PI calls had gotten out of hand but my goodness when is it ok to practically bear hug a receiver and get away with it.

That ball was overthrown. Not easy catch. The guy lacks experience, thats all.

Re: Josh Hill

We'll sign Graham although I hope we don't overpay. His disappearing acts this year left me SMH a lot...

Cruize 01-12-2014 08:29 AM

Re: Josh Hill

He seemed to be on the field for more snaps than Jimmy yesterday. Most of that is due to the fact that he atleast attempts to and usually does a good job blocking. With another offseason working out and getting stronger, he will definitely be the #2 TE next year. Add hin to draft picks Vaccaro, Jenkins, Stills and Armstead, along with UDFA's Robinson, Foster, Lelito, Reddick, and Sweeting who all contributed, and the future is bright for the Saints. Not forgeting Griffin and Johnson who also could contribute down the road.

hennr 01-12-2014 09:33 AM

Re: Josh Hill

Yes yes Cruize best UFDA recruting class ever as thats what it is after round 7.Just like college.Lelito your next center.Reddick by 2015 season replace hawthorne.Foster= to the 4th round pick traded to jets to move up to get Jenkins if saints did not make trade an kept the ivory trade pick an had used it to pick foster everyone would say great pick at a need position.robinson is the next Ivory type how in the world he was not drafted. You left out the Tulane QB Saints had to get him off the plane to saint louis. Then put him on 53 roster for rest of seson as several teams were after him.I do not see sweeting as a starter but along with Wade we have our young nickle an dime corners.Vaccaro = best saint ever drafted DB .Armstead= next willie roaf.Jenkins= the true 3-4 nose tackle you need to run a 3-4.Stills starter this year not bad for the 144th pick.Johnson at 6-5/275 4.7 speed but very raw is ryans pet project i think he was paid full rookie salry yes rules allow this but was glad he was signed to 53 roster at last second as you never know what pitch made by another team.As for Hill thats what this threads about.lets hope 2014 draft an ufda class as good as 2013.

No your 100% right he dropped passes important ones at that.. I was not impressed by him

Hill didn't drop "a bunch" of passes…
Your memory fails you.
I love Hill and think he is a definite prospect.
Giving Graham a boatload of money would be a major mistake.

Re: Josh Hill

he did drop some early in the season but looked great in practice an late in the year was used more an responded well was active for all but one or two games on the game day 46 list.:bng:

he didn't drop 'a bunch', but he did drop 2-3 and was only targetted 10 times with 6 catches. Not a great %
Ironically, he seems to have more trouble with high throws

I don't get to attached to these "potential" guys. The Joe Morgan, Quiddus, Martez Wilson kind of players. I didn't really see anything from him I liked. He dropped an easy one yesterday, and made a good catch later on but a catch any professional should be able to make. I'm not impressed.

Or the Lance Moores. Pierre Thomas's, Khyry Robinsons, Junior Galettes, Raphael Bush's, Chris Ivory's etc

Everyone you just named showed me enough as a rookie outside of maybe Lance Moore. Josh Hill only showed me I didn't want him on the field EVER.

Re: Josh Hill

Josh Hill played at idaho state not a div 1 program he is adjusting to level of speed of the pro game. i think coming off a off season pro weight an conditing program he will level out at 6-5/255 with his 4.6 speed an flexible hips .Saints did noy showcase him much in preseason as i think saints made a late descision to keep him on the 53 roster an not risk him on the practice squad. The other big Te milton out of la monroe being claimed off wavier wire by browns week before final cuts alerted the saints other teams had a eye on the Saints two rookie UFDA TEs.In fact hes stayed on Browns 53 all seson.by trying to hide Josh hill so he would clear waviers to saints pt squad.i think the lack of pre season work in the games slowed his development. From what i see of him if i could go back in time an if the saints would have had a 5th round pick an used it on him iwould call it a steal of a pick.:beatnik:

That leaping grab josh hill made was fantastic, showed great hands

If brees could have thrown better in the first half he was wide open on that bootleg play that brees overthrew

but Payton for some reason does want him on the feild and Drew has thrown to him on several important situations. there is obviously something there with this kid and I'm anxious to see what he has to offer.

Re: Josh Hill

I got mad at him constantly throughout the season because of his drops earlier in the season, but the whole reason we stayed competitive in that game is because of him and the momentum swing he created.

Re: Josh Hill

I'm sure he's a bargaining chip and an insurance policy if Graham signs somewhere else or holds out for god knows how long.

Re: Josh Hill

He is a better TE than Jimmy...

But jimmy is more of a soft WR...

Re: Josh Hill

Josh Hill can block.......that is a good reason to keep him around.

Jack Vegas 01-13-2014 12:07 PM

Re: Josh Hill

I like this kid. I don't think he's much of a blocker though. More like a super-size wide reciever. In fact his size and 40-time puts him more in Marques Colston territory of a big wideout than an actual tight end.

Budsdrinker 01-16-2014 09:37 AM

Re: Josh Hill

He has dropped at least 3 passes during the year that I can remember but he is young and can replace Watson as the #2 TE. He does have potential and I believe every player Brees has thrown passes to have dropped some, his just stick out more because they are usually on 3rd down and everyone is saying who the flip are you throwing to on 3rd down.

The problem with the Saints passing offense was PI wasn't being called...

Especially on defenders of Graham, Watson and Hill...

It's the Shaq Syndrome with Refs - "He's a big guy, he can take it" attitude...

Total BS; but Graham has to get healthy, step up and separate...

So all of our receivers were being interfered with? None of them found a way to outrun the defender?

I saw them being checked at the line and not getting a release....

Either way the refs are not as much of a problem as reviewers not finding a way to get open. With 4-5 receivers on the field there are not enough defenders to double team each one and put pressure on Drew.

I like Josh Hill. Our running game was much better when he was in blocking. Even better still when him and Watson were in. I think hill and Collins are two of the most under rated players on the team.
