SP thought enough of Brown to start him for 13 games and leave Armstead inactive, so there is something there. I expect Brown to get a shot at winning the job

Sean Payton after benching Charles Brown: "I had seen enough," Payton said. "I saw enough. It was enough. Period. The penalties, the pressures, the sacks. Saw enough. At some point, you just can't keep watching.

Once Brown was benched SP never looked back.

Armstead was a rookie and Brown was all he had to work with that had experience.

True, but if you remember, that was right after the game, and then he backed off the comments a little later.
I am not running for pres. of the Brown fan club, I would just like to see some competition in camp for a change, not the winner by default results we've seen lately

Strief and Bush are the only "must-sign" guys here to me. Would like to see Jenkins and Haralson back if they are cheap.

Here's what I would like to see next year keeping the cap in mind.

QB - Brees, Griffin
HB - Robinson, Ingram, Sproles, rookie (Jeremy Hill?)
FB - Collins
WR - Colston, Stills, Morgan, Toon
TE - Graham, Watson, Hill
T - Armstead, Strief, Harris
G - Evans, Grubbs, Lelito
C - DLP or rookie/FA

DL - Jordan, Jenkins, Bunkley, Foster, Walker, Hicks, Coleman
OLB - Haralson, Galette, Butler, Rufus
ILB - Lofton, Hawthorne, Humber, Reddick
CB - Lewis, Robinson, White, Sweeting, rookie
S - Vaccaro, Bush, Jenkins, rookie or FA

ST - Graham, Morestead, Drescher

There are not a lot of weak spots here. PT is one of my very favorite players in Saints history, but I wonder if Robinson doesn't replace 90% of his performance at 1/10th the cost. After thinking about it I think people are too quick to get rid of Sproles. He made an awful lot of huge plays this season even if he's not a real threat as a returner anymore.

If Colston can stay healthy and Morgan comes back strong, we have no problems at WR anymore. The only other question mark to me is left guard and center. Grubbs needs to accept a pay cut or GTFO and I while I like DLP he struggles with communication IMO.

We lack nothing on defense except some speed and coverage ability from the inside linebackers but Bush and Vaccaro both have a ton of range to make up for it. I think we could use a true slot/nickel corner, an agile guy in the mold of Greer. But even that would be a luxury not a necessity.

Grubbs wont take a pay cut,he may extend for more guaranteed money but he holds the cards with a $9.1ml cap figure and $9ml of dead money if he is cut. There are a few players that are at risk this year or next year due to high cap figure and low dead money but Grubbs,Evans,Colston are all safe this year.

Anyone here ever been asked to take a pay cut? I don't mean, lose your job or take a pay cut, or take a cut or be forced into retirement.

Just flat out, would you mind taking a pay cut, nothing will happen if you decline?

Didn't think so and for those with big brass ballz.... Go tell your wife you took a pay cut because someone asked please. It doesn't matter whether it's $5 or $5m, you will be on IR for the rest of your marriage.

No I wouldn't take a pay cut, and some of you have lost touch with reality or do not have a wife DVD children.

Believe it or not, I am not a total idiot. I know how to read the salary cap chart.

If the Saints want Grubbs to restructure they have all the leverage in the world. He can do it this offseason, or get cut next offseason; we gain $4m on the 2015 cap and he loses the $22m remaining on his sweetheart contract.

And I think we all know that based on his performance he wouldn't make a third of what he's getting now looking for a new deal with some other team in 2015. We've seen each of the last two offseasons, big name vets with declining performance don't get cut any slack in the free agent market.

If Grubbs likes playing for the Saints and he likes $20 million dollars, he will restructure his deal, plain and simple. To be clear, I like Grubbs alright. Pretty good dude, pretty good player. But he's making elite guard money and he is nowhere near being an elite guard anymore. He's just not worth that contract, especially on a team that routinely plucks o-line starters in the 4th and 5th rounds of the draft.

Disagree. A pro-bowl guard that had a decent season in a new system with a weak LT and OC next to him could command a pretty big contract, and the signing bonus alone would probably be half that 22 million.

He could easily get another 4 year deal with a 10 million signing bonus and a yearly average of 6 to 7 million.

I don't think we have that much leverage at all, since he has 9 million in dead money. We'd save 100,000 by releasing him and then we'd have to spend 7 million per season to replace him.
