Saints Take Brandin Cooks WR in Latest 2014 Mock Draft

27. New Orleans Saints - Brandin Cooks, Wide Receiver, Oregon State: Few players in college football were as productive as Oregon State wide receiver Brandin Cooks. The Saints' offense tends to live and die by Jimmy Graham, as we saw in the playoff loss to the Seahawks. Marques Colston isn't getting any younger, so keeping the wide receiver depth chart stocked with young talent should be a priority in New Orleans.

I would pass on Cooks & groom Stills/Toon.

I could deal with a WR at some point; we need a true #1 type and Moore/Colston are both 30...

CB looks good at 27. Greer is not getting any younger. Then, OL, LB, TE, WR, SS, DL.

He's not very big at all, I agree with K Major above

Cooks is Tavon Austin-like. I would love to have a talent like him.

That said, I don't think WR is a need we should address in the first round, and Cooks will be gone by the time our second round pick comes.

I would be pissed. I want Kelvin Benjamin. Cooks can be had in the 2nd round.

BPA BPA BPA BPA.

If its a WR its a WR. If its a QB its a QB. Just get the best guy available.

Crusader is right. The Saints have loads of talent. They can afford to take the best player on the board. I once heard something about how one should think of their team as one full of individual players that have value based on their ability. You want the highest total value on your roster. So by picking purely based on need, you do your team a disservice by not adding the most valuable player. You never know what can happen, and you'll want that talent that was passed up.

Ridiculously deep deep DEEP crop of receivers coming out. I can't really emphasis that enough... it's absurdly deep. I'm all for BPA as well, but I'm hoping it's not a receiver with our first pick.

Re: Saints Take Brandin Cooks WR in Latest 2014 Mock Draft

Before Armstead was injected into the line, I said that OL was our biggest need. He's done a rather splendid job IMO. The running game is looking better and the line is just looking more stable.

So that moves on to the next biggest need, WR... which IMO if we find a true number receiver; we will win the Super Bowl. If you go back and look at the tape, in pretty much every game we've been beaten in... our receivers were blanketed hard... like white on rice. If we had a WR that commanded double teams, created passing lanes; the production on the team would skyrocket.

This. Plus this kid is a second round talent that will probably be a better kick returner than receiver in the NFL. See how I always doom myself with famous last words? :D

I think we take a WR in the 1st only if Mike Evans or Kelvin Benjamin falls to us, if not we take BPA and then look for Jarvis or Odell in the 2nd round. Move up in the 2nd if we have to for one

Even with Armstead starting now, I'd say they should still go after another line man, Drew spent half the season and both games in Seattle running for his life. Looks like now the Saints are going to have to find young/cheap protection for Drew

Re: Saints Take Brandin Cooks WR in Latest 2014 Mock Draft

Biggest Need in my mind is a toss up between Linebacker, Defensive Back and Offensive Line...

If Drew wants protection, let him pay for it by way of restructure and pay cut...

I'm with papz.....you got kenny stills in the fifth round last season.... You want the best saints team you can put together, that starts by not stopping the train of good players have on defense..... Kenny Vaccaro was just the first step, this season... A ball hawking free safety is what you should use your first round pick on

I'm with Papz and with you, I would trade down and pick up a FS and ILB both in the 2nd round beef up the O-line in the 3rd, WR in the 4th, thats as far as I got so far.

I disagree. A Payton/Brees offense doesn't have a concept of a #1 back or WR. There's a point where you have to accept that it is what it is. The #1 back is the one that's in. The #1 receiver is the one that is open.

The closest we have to a #1 receiver is Graham. He fits the role on this offense perfectly because the offense doesn't have to run through him in order for him to be satisfied.

Trading down and grabbing FS Deone Bucannon and ILB Christian Jones in the 2nd round would be amazing.

Didn't Jeremy tear up his ACL? I would take my chances with a younger Joe Morgan who is coming off the same type injury. As for Grimes ... love the physicality he brings to the position.

We need road graders on the O-Line. Keep Drew clean and consistent running.

Re: Saints Take Brandin Cooks WR in Latest 2014 Mock Draft

We were desperate for Outside Linebacker last draft and didn't really draft one for the 34, lost our second best FA in early camp, traded for an OLB who's got a torn pec and staring at 30...

How do we not have a need for LB as a top three rounds priority?!?

We've got a WR corps of Colston, Stills, Moore, Meachem and Toon with Joe Morgan recovering from an injury; how many teams are that deep at WR from top to bottom in the league...

We've got to shore up the LBers and we've got to continue to get Vaccaro some help in the secondary with Harper and Jenkins needing to be upgraded and likely gone from a salary cap cost perspective...

Have you seen the hands by Landry and Beckem from LSU? It would be more logical to steal them in the 2/3 rd. Landry for sure will fall into the 3rd and he is a beast. We need a CB or Oline in the first. We will be losing Strief and BDP unless they settle for a cheap contract(which I doubt).

I think OLB can be dealt with later in the draft or in FA. Haralson did really well until he got hurt late in the season. Galette is a beast and Butler will be back from injury. As backups we have Johnson and Dawson. I think depth is really good at OLB. Oline,CB, WR and Safety I think is a bigger need. Moore will probably be released and Colston/Meachem is 412 years old.
