New Orleans Saints positional analysis: wide receivers

WIDE RECEIVERS

It's hard to give the receiving corps high marks when most of the targets went to other positions.

Three of the Saints' top four reception leaders were tight end Jimmy Graham (86) and running backs Pierre Thomas (77) and Darren Sproles (71); Marques Colston (75) was the only receiver in that group.

Veteran Lance Moore, who had a 1,000-yard season in 2012, only had 37 targets and 457 yards in 2013.

Graham led the team with 1,215 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns. No receiver had more than five scores.

Kenny Stills flashed potential in his rookie season. But the Saints may need to go younger at wideout in 2014 as Colston, Moore and Robert Meachem will be at least 30 years old by October.

I can see Toon, Moore and Meachum being replaced this season, not much production from them this season, I think we keep Stills, Colston,and Morgan and draft 2 WR, 1 to start and 1 to groom.

i know drew put the number but WR were really non effective as a unit all year

maybe the signalling of a first down has gone to their heads that it is a big deal. in this offense it is common place.

maybe do TD signals instead? besides it looks stupid at this point

The group needs a star, there are no stars in this draft..... A lot of big guys not burners...... Stills, Colston, Morgan, Moore.... And draft one.... I don't thnk they are gonna waste 2 picks on the wide out position.

Sammy Watkins is a star. You'll see at least 3 rookie receivers make impacts and flash star potential next year. Deep receiver draft.

Your right it is a deep recieving draft, I could see us going with Jordon Matthews in the 4th

Agreed, Meachum is done, probably Moore also, and Toon may linger practice squad again.

Moore is the best route runner we have and rarely drops a ball. He's a perfect slot guy just lost in the shuffle this year. Other than money, there's no reason to drop him.

Sammy Watkins.... Lol you won't even get to sniff his braids!!! Show me somebody who we could get after round three who could be Sammy Watkins.....

I think a lot of people see not a lot of production from the wide receivers and equate that with not having a true number one... We didn't have a true number one for years and that never stopped us, keeping drew up right is what has gotta happen for us to see more production from the wide receivers. I'm in the minority probably by myself..... But I probably would be picking C, and OT before I venture into picking wideouts, and running backs.....

2. CB or Safety
3. OLB
4. OT or C
5. OT or C
6 skill position!!!!!!

I'd say center with the intention of replacing De La Puenta in the future. I'd hold off on tackle until the center position is worked out. I'd try to avoid lots of changes to the o-line at the same time.
