SP Last in COY Balloting

Of all the postseason awards for the recently-completed NFL regular season, coach of the year became the toughest one to decide.

Typically, the prize goes to the man whose team most significantly exceeded preseason expectations, with extra consideration given to any adversity overcome in the process.

Ron Rivera wasn't a bad choice.

Personally I would've gone with Andy Reid.

The Saints making the play-offs with SP back shouldn't have been a surprise. Other than the regular season loss to the PEDhawks, the Saints should have won the rest of their games!

I would have given it to Rivera he has to put up with all those egos Cam,
SS and Old Man Richardson. Richardson treats Rivera like a son, wait he fired his sons.

I think that's about right. He was included in the group of 6 that was being considered. Two seasons ago this team went 13-3 so it's not a complete shock that they improved from 7-9. He did a great job as we've come to expect from him.

Some of the other coaches considered turned their teams around. I think Rivera is a good pick for COY. He's build a crazy good defense there and earned a bye in the playoffs.

One way of looking at it is that they had such high expectations from Payton because they know he is one of the best in the league that it was not a surprise.

Re: SP Last in COY Balloting

This year was a tough year for COTY as there were several impressive performances...

Bruce Arians in Arizona is probably the least appreciated, overlooked job - and considering what he did to step in last year to turn the Colts around, he should have gotten a special award for the back-to-back performance...

Ron Rivera impressed me with his game management at the end of the Saints @ Panthers game this year; very impressive; he stayed the course and performed with more pressure on him than the other candidates...

Andy Reid is a top 3 head coach each and every season; if I could play football at that level, my first choice after Coach Payton would be Andy Reid; granted there was talent there despite the mess that was KC; but he sure got that house in order quick; another Bill Walsh Extended Coaching Tree guy...

Mike McCoy was the epitome of playing with house money; but what kind of expectations will be on these guys for next season now that the Chargers nearly shot the moon?!? This'll be one to watch...

Sean Payton is such a good coach, like Brees, that it's easier to focus on the negatives as there are so few; and as such, they glare especially under the hating eye of big market media types who don't like Coach's attitude towards the media...

Coach Payton's return performance is an argument to rename the MVP to Most Valuable Person and included coaches in that ballot...

And that's it in a nutshell. If you don't give the media it's attention that it feels is owed, don't expect any love to come your way.

Belichick did what with how many receivers this year? Lol

He doesn't give the media anything but snark and scowl and they return the favor.
