The 1 seed
 

I know a lot has been said of needing the 1 seed to make the sb next year but in odd number year playoff seasons things have been less dominant

Cowboys and packers ran away from the NFC reg season and pats and colts in AFC, chargers and giants were only road winners and giants were second to the 13-3 cowboys in their own division. Also, from week 10 all the AFC division winners stayed first place throughout. a 1 seed and 5 seed went to the sb.

Colts and saints were in the sb as 1 seeds. Vikings were the other strong team in the NFC. SD got off to a 2-3 start before going on a 11-0 run. NE lost all but two road games, one was in London the other was the bills which is a yearly tradition. And saints, vikings, colts, cardinals were strongly atop their divisions most of the season. And everyone was sweeping each other in the NFC East but three of them all swept the redskins.

Packers, pats, and saints were the three best that season with SF cutting between saints and packers due to a surprise year. Still nobody won on the road in AFC playoffs and only giants in NFC who won the sb. Packers, saints, and 49ers also dominated their divisions as did pats, texans, and ravens(who swept Pittsburgh).

We saw the same thing, the likely conference title games everyone mostly would predict before the season.........SF at Seatte and NE at Denver. Carolina and Green Bay lost to the same team SF. SD beat the overrated bengals. Still the playoffs didnt have much surprise

Nobody won on the road in the NFC but the winners in the NFC were not the usual contenders. Seattle went 9-7 while Chicago had a fluke year, saints emerged in a big way, eagles won division with Garcia and cowboys and giants got in with 9-7 and 8-8 records. Both the top seeds in the AFC chargers and ravens went 1 and done and the colts and pats squared off in AFC title game after having 3/4 seeds. Also Seattle won their division sloppily, NFC East was all over, and nobody was even good enough to even challenge Chicago. But the AFC teams dominated their divisions but the playoffs were different.

Steelers at times looked like the team to beat and settled for the 2 seed, while titans, giants, and panthers all got ousted after first round byes. Also eagles won in Minnesota, ravens won in Miami additionally and the chargers at 8-8 won in a home wild card game against 12-4 colts. Cardinals went to sb as a 4 seed against Pittsburgh. The pats were absent, Manning was coming off surgery leading to two different teams winning their divisions.

Falcons went 13-3 and we know what happened. GB went and beat all three teams on the road en route to a sb, but also the ravens and jets won in their wild card games on the road and pats got knocked off as a 1 seed as well. Jets until they played the pats week 13 had first place most of the season, jaguars was giving colts problems early, and chiefs came out of nowhere to win the AFC west and chargers missed playoffs for first time since 05. Packers were the best team in NFC North but a injury by Rodgers against lions gave bears the division and a 7-9 team won the NFC west.

We know this was a sorry year, the 4 seed ravens win the sb over SF. Atlanta loses at home in NFC title game while Denver loses at home to Baltimore, and NE in title game to same team. Denver and NE controlled their divisions but Baltimore tried to give their away and Houston struggled after a strong start limping to the south title by 1 game. Packers took division clinch by week 15, and redskins go on a 7-0 run to win the NFC East through a string of easy games. Seattle goes on a 5-0 run to go 11-5, basically a game out of winning the west and vikings get the last wild card.

basically every other year seems really simple and every other year looks sloppy. This might be why it may not be a bad idea to have the 2 seed because the 1 seed could end up 1 and done. But given the competition in the north and east, the west or south winner will be the 1 seed but Seattle isnt doing it again and SF's schedule is too challenging. So unless Arizona emerges it's probably us or Atlanta who will get it.
