Rumor: Saban to replace Haslett???

Just consider the source, but this is going to be an entertaining coaching shuffle in the NFL and College.

Rumor: Saban to replace Haslett???

I posted about this in the Why we should fire Haslett now thread. If Saban is gonna get interest from Miami, why the hell wouldn\'t we throw our hat into the ring? Saban is a god in Louisiana now, and if the fans will follow anyone it will be him. Don\'t we feel like Saban is now one of our own? Who would disagree with him being the next head coach? Get rid of Haslett and let the rumor mill spin!!!!!

i\'ll tell you why we shouldn\'t pursue saban..we don\'t need to be the experiment team any longer...no college coaches no coordinators..we need a proven nfl head coach...nothing less will do in my opinion... get jimmy johnson in here...i will continue to preach that till it happens..if it doesn\'t..i will be the annoying one in the cheapseats screaming how we should have pursued johnson...flat out..there is not a better candidate right now..and likely won\'t be by the end of the year...we need coordinators..but not to coach the entire team...it just doesn\'t work for us...we need a guy who knows how to run a practice...knows what to do to make guys better...we need proven leadership...and proven talent evaluation...johnson has both...he\'s our man..

Speaking of, where the hell is 08?

Shadow - I think your logic may be slightly skewed. All good head coaches start as coordinators and college coaches. From what I\'ve seen, raiding the pantry of perinial powerhouses has worked better than promoting from the college ranks. Look at all the great head coaches that came from under Walsh and Parcells (even Ditka ;) ).

Conversely, how many coaches were able to make one team really sucessful and then do it somewhere else? Johnson couldn\'t. Siefert couldn\'t. Ditka couldn\'t. The only one I can think of who did it in more than one place as a head coach right now is Parcells. Jimmy Johnson isn\'t the answer, although I would definitely entertain the idea of bringing Fisher in if he gets fired in Tennessee. Otherwise, coordinators are probably your best bet.

you can\'t really lay that miami thing on johnson though..he wasn\'t allowed to bench marino..you all remember how that went down..marino ran the dolphins...jimmy just kinda stepped aside..that wasn\'t jimmy\'s fault

That doesn\'t change the fact that coaches rarely do it in more than one place.

Uh.....

Michigan State people.

We don\'t want this.

BMG.

Are you serious? Maybe you should read Patriot Reign and see how awful Cleveland was for Belichek. He has only taken the Pats to two Superbowl wins and Saban is a disciple. Maybe the Pats should have just remembered Cleveland and not given him a job. Didn\'t LSU win a national title last year? Did anyone predict them to do so before the year started(besides the usual homers)? So maybe LSU should never have hired Saban and not won a national title. If good coaches can\'t shake off bad coaching stints and be allowed to shine elsewhere then what is the point? Everyone should just take green rookie coaches who have never had success or failure anywhere and put them in. Surely you don\'t want this?

I\'m used to this team going .500, let\'s go ahead and hire Saban and spend 3 years arguing over how it is or isn\'t his fault.

Well, we all agree the current state of the team is largely the current coaching staff\'s fault right? And we all agree it is time for a change right? Saban is not only a good coach, but he will put butts in the seats. Tell me fans won\'t be excited to see the man who resurrected LSU at the helm of the Saints. Ticket sales stay up, Saints don\'t leave. And Belichek still consults with Saban even after winning superbowls so I doubt he will let the Saints fall into the same problems as Haslett has. If bill Belichek respects his opinion, I think I will too.

Aww man, if only! I admittedly have my doubts if we could land Fisher, but that might help light the fire back under me, at least. The Saints players might be another story...

But, what the heck, while we\'re spinning the Wheel of Uncertain Fortune, how \'bout I throw another name out there? I\'m not necessarily endorsing this guy, but for discussion\'s sake:

Tommy Tuberville (ex-Ole Miss, present Auburn head coach) - I don\'t know how much of the story made the national media, but locally (I live in Birmingham) the papers & talk radio last year were choking with stories about what the Auburn administration did to this guy (actions that later resulted in the college president\'s dismissal). Seems that before season\'s end, the administration flew a private plane to Louisville to interview a former Tuberville assistant, Bob Petrino , with the intent of the Louisville head coach taking Tubby\'s job. Trouble is, some folks found out and the story leaked to the local media (many of you may be familiar with one Paul Finebaum). The situation got really ugly, as Tuberville had no idea of the administration\'s covert activities. One year later, Tuberville\'s Auburn Tigers are ranked #3 in the nation, and if there were any justice regarding the BCS, they\'d be ahead of #2 Oklahoma after last week.

Point is, recent interviews with Tuberville seem to indicate that he\'s never really gotten over the betrayal. Sure, he gives all the half-hearted \"I\'m really happy here\" soundbites when provoked, but the words sound as hollow as Jim Haslett\'s skull. Local talk has already started the rumor regarding the Miami job, but most of us figure who that one\'s going to.

As for credentials, there\'s the #3 ranking. His team\'s defense sent Dontarrius Thomas and Karlos Dansby to the NFL as pretty respectable draft picks this year. His team sports two of the SEC\'s premier RB\'s in Carnell Williams & Ronnie Brown. And new offensive coordinator Al Borges (who I\'m sure Tuberville would like to keep around) has helped make QB Jason Campbell look like an All-American one year after being regarded as one of the biggest jokes in the SEC.

All that being said, I\'m still not necessarily endorsing this guy (heck, I\'m a Crimson Tide fan!), but if we\'re gonna discuss hungry college coaches for the hopefully soon-to-be-vacant head coaching job in New Orleans, I think Tuberville may warrant a look. He\'s obviously got incentive to move on to bigger and better things after the way his present employer has treated him...

What do you guys think?
