Re: What now at corner?

I don't think the Saints can afford a FA at corner. They've still got to find between $10 and 15 million in cap space just to sign DLP, Strief, Bush and Graham.

Besides that, the Saints had a pretty good pass defense using Lewis and White. They were second in yards allowed, 9th in yards per attempt, and allowed an 83.6 passer rating against.

Also, Robinson was the projected starter at either corner or nickel back positions last season. Overall he wasn't good the year before but almost nobody on Spag's defense looked good. Robinson was able to keep up a very good completion percentage against, and passer rating against. So maybe he'll look good in Ryan's defense.

I don't think the Saints can afford to fix something that wasn't that broken.

I don't think we bring in a big contract at CB either. Maybe a nickel/dime guy who can start in a pinch - that's one of the things I like about Cassius Vaughn. Or a high draft pick. But not somebody that's going to cost you more than a couple million a year. Utah Saint said it best, no need to fix something that was not broken.

FA CB's come is all price ranges. An aging vet with a year or two left in the tank looking to hang on for another season, an up and coming guy off of someone else's practice squad, a mid-range journeyman who can provide depth.

We don't need to sign another Lewis. Someone like a Chris Carr or a tad better will do just fine for depth, and won't cost much at all. Maybe a couple more Trevin Wade types perhaps?

You're right. I should have specified that my post was a response to the posts that mention Talib, Munnerlyn, Roggers-Cromartie, Grimes...etc.

No, but it is the hardest position on the field outside of QB.

Agreed, I don't think we can afford to go after a top tier FA CB either.

But I can certainly see us going after a mid-tier experienced CB for sure.

We will draft a DT or DE in the first round. We will pick up a CB and OT in free agency. Both could be had at a great price for our cap. If we can push salary off to next year we can sign outstanding players at both positions.

Patrick Robinson contrat 2014
cap hit 2,804,333
dead money 1,446,833

cheap risky starter or salary cap causality? injury history makes it a tough call.

the smart money would have the saints drafting one of the developmental CB in the second round on that have a high ceiling. maybe two. CB/FS types

Keith McGill CB/S Utah
Stanley Jean-Baptiste Nebraska
Aaron Colvin, CB, Oklahoma
Pierre Desir, Lindenwood
Walt Aikens Liberty
Dontae Johnson; CB/S, NC State
Jordan Love, CB, Towson
Brandon Dixon NW Missouri St CB/FS

to name a few. its a good year for these types.

CB in round 1 i just do not have faith in ant of them not call them a reach. we need one to fall into our laps but that aint happening

crossing their fingers and praying Pat can stay on the field for once is a huge gamble.

interesting to watch and see what the saints do
