The Power of Coaching
Assuming isn't lying nd I can add correctly, the Saints have been outscored 47-10 in first quarters this season. All 10 of those points came in week 2 against the lowly 49ers. If you take that game out, the Saints have been outscored 44-0 in first quarters.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the 1st quarter more about coaching than talent? Isn't this when plays are scripted and the scheme doesn't have to be changed bc you're way ahead or behind? Sure, coaching matters on every play, but when it's 0-0 and there's 55 minutes left in the game, shouldn't that be a time where you see the best a team has to offer? Well what does 47-10 say about our staff?

Meanwhile, Crennel managed to hold the Rams in St. Louis to 22 points with the Patties THREE top CBs out. He had Tro Brown playing WR. You think our defense is bad now, imagine Craft, Montgomery, and Joe Horn playing CB!!! And with that defense, in the Ram's place, the Patties held the Rams to fewer points (22) than the Saints did in the Dome with all of their starters (25). Wow.

The Power of Coaching
Nice post WhoDat.

I was thinking about this last night. A team is made up of many players, and each of those players can be super talented. A WR may be the best in football and be able to beat his man every time. A QB may be the most accurate, with the strongest arm in the league. A RB may be the fastest on the field. On the defensive side of the ball, the same thing applies.

Where am I going with this? Well, if the best QB throws the ball to a WR who is running a different route, the play will probably be a bust. If the RB runs and the Oline blocked out the wrong hole, the play will probably be a bust. If the offense runs the same play three times in a row, the play will probably be a bust. The same applies for the defense.

What is the common link? Coaching. It\'s up to the coaches to get all of these players, who may be very talented in their own rite, to play together as a team. The coaches need to make sure everybody is on the same page.

All of these slow starts to the season the past couple of years, and the slow starts in games, all point to poor preparation, and that is a sign of bad coaching.

Heck, fire him now and let the players call the game. At least that would be interesting.

At least under those conditions everyone could say that so and so is a total sand lot player, and they would no longer be just plain wrong.
