After the release of Roman Harper, Jabari Greer and Will Smith coupled with the announcement the Saints wouldn't be re-signing Jonathan Vilma, it made me wonder where each guy fit in the Saints' all time position rankings. So I decided to put together the all time top 5 in team history at each position. All four recently departed players were firmly in the top five of all time at their respective positions and really there's no debate necessary. Here is what I came up with:

Quarterbacks:

1. Drew Brees (2006-present) 7 Pro Bowls

2. Archie Manning (1971-1982) 2 Pro Bowls

3. Bobby Hebert (1985-1992)

4. Aaron Brooks (2000-2005)

5. Jim Everett (1994-1996)

Runningbacks:

1. Deuce McAllister (2001-2009) 2 Pro Bowls

2. Dalton Hilliard (1986-1993) 1 Pro Bowl

3. George Rogers (1981-1984) 2 Pro Bowls

4. Reuben Mayes (1986-1991) 2 Pro Bowls

5. Chuck Muncie (1976-1980) 1 Pro Bowl

Fullbacks:

1. Craig Heyward (1988-1992)

2. Tony Galbreath (1976-1980)

3. Terrelle Smith (2000-2003)

4. Hokie Gajan (1981-1985)

5. Mike Karney (2004-2008)

Wide Receivers:

1. Marques Colston (2006-present)

2. Joe Horn (2000-2006) 4 Pro Bowls

3. Eric Martin (1985-1993) 1 Pro Bowl

4. Danny Abramowicz (1967-1973)

5. Lance Moore (2007-present)

Re: Saints All Time Position Rankings

Billy Kilmer was better than Aaron Brooks.

Galbreath was our best FB. Followed by Hokie.

We've had some really good LBs and RBs

Linebackers:

1. Rickey Jackson (1981-1993) 6 Pro Bowls
2. Sam Mills (1986-1994) 4 Pro Bowls
3. Pat Swilling (1986-1992) 4 Pro Bowls
4. Vaughan Johnson (1986-1993) 4 Pro Bowls
5. Jonathan Vilma (2008-2013) 2 Pro Bowls

On defense Doug Atkins is second only to Rickey Jackson. (If that)
Defensive Ends:
1. Wayne Martin (1989-1999) 1 Pro Bowl
2. Will Smith (2004-2013) 1 Pro Bowl
3. Joe Johnson (1994-2001) 2 Pro Bowls
4. Frank Warren (1981-1994)
5. Doug Atkins (1967-1969)

McKenzie and Greer were both better than Poe.

Cornerbacks:

1. Dave Whitsell (1967-1969) 1 Pro Bowl
2. Johnnie Poe (1981-1987)
3. Mike McKenzie (2005-2009)
4. Jabari Greer (2009-2013)
5. Eric Allen (1995-1997) 1 Pro Bowl

Wow! They really missed on this one. Waymer should only be above Harper. But I can see why Sharper is so low. He only really played one year for us.

Safeties:

1. Dave Waymer (1980-1989) 1 Pro Bowl
2. Tommy Myers (1972-1981) 1 Pro Bowl
3. Sammy Knight (1997-2002) 1 Pro Bowl
4. Roman Harper (2006-2013) 2 Pro Bowls
5. Darren Sharper (2009-2010) 1 Pro Bowl

Re: Saints All Time Position Rankings

Waymer was a CB and Tommy Meyers was the entire defense.

Wes Chandler should be the 5th Wide Receiver over Lance Moore.

Aaron Brooks over Bobby.

Sorry... but we did win our first ever playoff game with Brooks.

Yeah I can't see Lance in the top 5.

Wes gets that spot

Re: Saints All Time Position Rankings

We won a Super Bowl with Shanley, doesn't put him over Mills, Swilling, Jackson.....

I don't care for either Brooks or Hebert.... Just saying not everything hinges on a game.
