Darren Sproles has not been released yet. Schefter says lots of teams interested Saints may get a pick in last minute trade.

A trade is highly unlikely.

Why would a team give up a draft pick to take on 3.5m in cap when they can wait until tomorrow and get him for 3.5m in cap or lower and no draft pick.

Sproles is a specialty player and 3.5m is high for that.

Yes, there could be a team desperate enough to do it but would Sproles want to go there?

I could see a team that wants him that wouldn't get him in FA giving up a late pick.

If they want him that bad... Why haven't they contacted the Saints? He has been up for trade since last Friday I do believe.

If he was worth 3.5m + a Draft pick, and I wanted him that badly, I would have snatched him in a trade Friday night.

Not sure if a team will.
My thoughts are a team like tge jags, bills etc that will not get him if he is released may give up a late pick to secure him. Who knows if Loomis has spoken to anyone.Could be teams leaving the front office to stew in tbe hopes of getting him for a 6/7th rather than a 5/6th.

Anything is certainly possible but 3.5m+a draft pick is more than he is worth... We are not keeping him at just 3.5m, and that was probably the hardest decision the front office has made so far this off season.

I must be the only Saints fan on Earth, or maybe in the entire world, that wants Sproles back. He still has wheels. :(

Sooo....you think that no one has contacted the Saints about Sproles? I find that highly unlikely considering that he has been told that he will no longer be on the team and has yet to be officially cut. I feel like if there were absolutely no trade interest he would have been dropped by now.

Id love him here but that's a lot of cap for a declining player that isnt a alround back. Teams have figured out the the offense and when Sproles is receiving out yhe backfield teams are on him straoght away.The less said about his returning last year the better tjough yhats on blocking too.

I think PT is just as effective in the screen game as Sproles while also being a duel threat to run the ball when in... I love watching Sproles play, but I don't think we'll miss him as much as some fans might think. I hope that Cadet gets his $#!@ together and maybe takes over has our Sproles-type RB. That kid has a ton of potential.

I agree.
Sproles is more likely to rip off a 40+ yard run than PT but teams see Sproles come in and set up knowing whats coming, whereas they have to defend both run and screen plays for PT.

No one said anything about not wanting him. I'd love to have him back but my wants and what the situation is seem to be a little different.

The question goes both ways....if there was no interest do you think he would still be on the roster? It just seems unlikely to me that there's no chance in hell for a trade, and we've told this guy we don't want him but haven't released him yet.... I think that the situation suggests at least some trade interest, and that alone suggests that some team out there is contemplating pulling the trigger...

Yes because there is always 'hope'.

No where did i say "no chance in hell", I said "highly unlikely" Again, there is hope.

Why are we hanging on to him till 4pm E? Because Loomis is hoping someone calls back for a trade. Ill put good money that when the Saints put it out that Sproles was up for trade then got at least 14 calls inquiring.

He is still up for trade. If a team made an offer to Loomis that was acceptable, why is he still a Saint right now?

Not as unlikely as you think. Some teams that may show intrest in a trade may have no chance getting him in FA. Think of this, The Browns may be willing to give up a 4th because they are in need of a rb. Would Sproles sign there on his own???? Heck no!

A lot of interest, but my guess the stumbling block is inheriting the contract. Saints are trying not to lose the dead money, even though it's 'only'' 750,000

With this deep draft I would be more than happy with a 4th for a player we were probably going to release.
