AJ McCarron in late rounds?

Nick Saban: Passing on A.J. McCarron would be a huge mistake | ProFootballTalk

Sigh... yes, I know another Bama player.

But he might make sense in the late rounds if he were available.

Im not saying he is great but it wouldn't shock me if he was sitting there in round 5.

I'll take his girlfriend... someone else can have him.

It seems we have many needs that don't start with the letter Q.

He wont be there at the end of the 3rd for us IMO, especially after he had a very good pro day.

BPA... stay the course of BPA.

Hey if he is there where they like him at and don't have to reach for him I am ok with it.

Re: AJ McCarron in late rounds?

Do not burn a draft pick on a QB that will not be here when Drew retires. Doesn't matter how good he is, it will not help us when he is gone in three years and signs his second contract for more than we will pay a BU QB. We are in that transition period where a BU QB experiment is a waste of picks but a starting QB will not be here when we need him.

We all saw what happened with Chase Daniel, the same will happen if we draft a QB this season. If Drew goes down in the middle of a season there are plenty of FA QBs with experience that can get the job done, and I would prefer we do not throw a rookie without play time to the wolves in week 11 if needed.

No one argues Drew has at least 4 seasons left, so a QB drafted this season would be gone the year before Drew retires if that happens 4 years from now. Next season is prime however for drafting the next Saints QB, he would get his rookie year to learn, his sophomore year to get some time when we have a lead, and he can be phased in his Jr. year while Drew is phased out. This way when he signs his second contract we know what we are signing as a starting QB.

With all the needs we have right now I just do not see it optimal to burn a draft pick on a second QB to ride the bench. :bng:

Ryan Griffin does not approve. Isn't he the reason we brought in his Tulane coach? I don't think we will be drafting a QB this year.

I agree that it's too early and we still have Griffin.

Let us not forget the guru we have at HC. Two QBs owe their success to Sean Payton's eye and ability.

Romo and Brees. I think Romo would have a lot less issues if he had Payton there.

We have plenty of time

Romo could be so much better without Jerry Jones, makes you wonder what might have happened say the Dolphins had signed Drew...

Jessica Simpson would've dated Kyle Orton?

Yeah. Somebody around here - I think it's Danno - keeps saying our next QB is still in High School. That's about right I think. This is not the year to worry about drafting Drew's replacement.

I think I'd rather have Aaron Murray.

My thoughts exactly! I'd trade a first round pick for her. Him I wouldn't waste a late 7th round pick on. I would give him a shot as an UDFA though.

Tajh Boyd is terrible... So much so that the Raiders are in love with him. That should tell you something.

The head football coach at Tulane U is Curtis Johnson, former Saints Receivers Coach who helped developed Marques Colston, Lance Moore installed many of the former packages of the Saints at Tulane - Familiarlity...

there are some great QB to sit and develop in this years draft. in SP i trust in regards to QB. OL not so much but QB sure

Tajh Boyd - i watched him play a good bit this year. talent is there i just not to sure on football IQ or if he can get his head screwed on straight. definitely high risk high reward

Re: AJ McCarron in late rounds?

If the Saints do not resign Luke Mccown who i think is a good enough vet back up then i would be ok with the extra 5th pick being a QB.I however think you need to consider how good the kid from Tulane would be if he played for bama.I would be ok with the extra 5th being a QB but thats not in my opinion the alabama QB.If the qb from paytons college is still on the draft board for pick 27th i would not be shocked to see the saints draft him.For sure if hes there at pick 58 i see payton picking him up. :clown::beer:
