GO BRONCOS!

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I loved willie, I used to call him smokin\' Willie J. That guy would run around in traffic for more yards than anybody else. I always wondered what happened to him. Connell wound up in the CFL at some point!...

I never understood why we cut Willie. He and Horn were the first Saints WRs to both have 1,000 yard seasons in... ever? In 2000, Willie Jackson had far more YAC than Joe Horn, and he showed he was a gamer by almost single-handedly winning the playoff game against the Rams. I think he had the hat-trick in that game. Good thing we got all that speed though, right? Why do you need a sure handed WR that can go across the middle when you\'ve got Donte and Henderson? LOL.

Because they give us the deep threat, now if they can actually catch the ball wouldn\'t that be something? Seriously though, there was some flawed logic in that particular tactical move. If I am not mistaken we still seem to rely on Joe for the long ball, why the heck did we let Willie go? It\'s bonehead moves like that, that will likely stand as Haslett\'s legacy.

I also think it was an unnecessary pick just like the Stinch pick. I think both players will eventually be good players but Donterrious Thomas was there for the taking. I know its hindsight but Thomas would probably be our 2nd best LB right now.
Does anyone think Donterrious Thomas would have been inactive for 9 straight games?

In their defense I think there were still questions about both Joe and Donte\'s health. I think they thought Devery was hamstring insurance.

Another guy I liked was Earnest Wilford. A good tall possession WR.
I think he ended up going in the 4th to Jax.

But we need a Willie Jackson type. I posted that thought several weeks ago, but didn\'t get much response.

I miss Willie, too, but I\'m admittedly shocked if he\'s still playing. He was no \"spring chicken\" when we had him, and he\'s gotta be getting up there now.

I have a hard time naming a good \"over the middle\" WR these days. I was always a huge fan of Ricky Proehl (speaking of \"up there\"), he never posted huge numbers, but was incredibly reliable and always seemed there in the in clutch. I think he may still play for the Panthers.
The Cardinals used to have an \"over the middle\" guy (last name Green, I think), who I always liked to watch, also. I guess our best possession guy these days is Jerome Pathon.

Anybody else have an old (or present) favorite?

Fire him up a couple blunts and let him rip.

Of course, his test could have been for steroids (wink, wink).

jerome pathon has been a good reciever for us...i think he could be pro bowl easy..if he had more chances..he has always been brave in the middle..not a big speed guy..but he has heart..and good hands...and has been really,... besides horn..our best reciever for a few years now...
