Champ Bailey @ Saints Facilities??

According to Keenan Lewis' instagram photo post, looks like champ is in the saints house. Anyone else heard or seen anything. Interesting why he'd be there

Interesting. He's older than dirt but he might have one year left in him.

His name is Champ. Just makes sense that he would visit the next champs.

Re: Champ Bailey @ Saints Facilities??

Yesir, i believe he could be a great addition if healthy to make a run in the next year or two. We'll see how this plays out. Could be nothin... But definitely looks to be The Saints Facility. Theres a "Dome patrol" picture in the back office of the photo post haha.

Re: Champ Bailey @ Saints Facilities??

Champ bailey and ben watson on the same team haha!!

nearly 9 years after ben watson ran him down after a 100 yard interception return, bailey got smacked out of bounds by watson at the 1 yard line

No matter what happens, CB in first 3-4 rounds is a must.

Yesir! Definitely agree. Would be good for champ to coach em up as well. Great leader

Kicking the tyres see if he has anything left, we'll still go DB in the draft and champ may not make final cuts if we do sign him

I would think like the story said he's probably going to be an all around back up in the secondary at 36 he can't expect much money he hasn't talked to anyone else

I'm surprised. I've always been a fan of Bailey but does he have any gas left in the tank?

It'll be interesting to see what happens.

little bit better name, Ha. I'd like a one year deal to help and mentor Corey, P-Rob, & our future draft pick. Great, mature leader and could help lite a fire in the above mentioned. We still have about $2+ mill to play with, which im sure will increase as well some way or another(restructures) to sign the draft class.

Re: Champ Bailey @ Saints Facilities??

I think it would be awesome to get this guy. Of course he's not a #1 CB anymore but as a rotational player we could do a hell of a lot worse than one of the best CB's of all time. The knowledge he could impart to Lewis, White, etc. would be invaluable.

Champ In For Visit

1 Attachment(s)
So much for slowing down the free-agency pace now that we’ve hit April.

The New Orleans Saints stayed plenty busy on Tuesday, bringing in future Hall of Fame cornerback Champ Bailey for a visit and re-signing linebacker Parys Haralson.

Both moves make sense. Even though the Saints have been going through a bit of a youth movement this offseason, they could still use a little veteran depth on defense.

Obviously, the enthusiasm over the 35-year-old Bailey should be tempered a bit. The Denver Broncos chose to release him, and they’re in the exact same boat as the Saints -- a team going “all-in” to win right now.

Still, the idea of signing Bailey is a fascinating proposition. He’s one of the NFL’s all-time great cornerbacks, who would match wits in practice every day with another 35-year-old future Hall of Famer in quarterback Drew Brees. And if nothing else, Bailey would be a great addition to the locker room with one of the league’s rising young defenses.

Another Hall of Famer could fit with Saints - NFC South Blog - ESPN

memories memories last I saw champ was a lsu Georgia battle in tiger stadium. and yes he was everything they said about him. he took care of more field than I imagined. he could have left Georgia a year earlier.

or Bellamy. He never cleaned out his locker either

Of course age is an issue, but what about durability? He played 5 games last year.
I'd be disappointed if he got more than vet minimum and some roster and snap bonuses

Re: Champ Bailey @ Saints Facilities??

We will def draft a CB in 1-3 rounds but it would be awesome if they could get some tutlidge from Champ for a year or two.
I still think we draft WR 1st and maybe even in the second too. Cornerback 2 or 3 and we re-sign Goody.

+1, GREAT player .... in his prime. He will be 36 by the time training camp starts. I think he is a back up at best. Continue with the youth movement on D.

Re: Champ Bailey @ Saints Facilities??

I'd like to see us get him. Champ Bailey is still better then Corey White and Patrick Robinson. I'd go as far as to say he's still better then Jabari Greer and Asante Samuel. He could play a little safety. He could play nickel. And you know you're getting an intelligent guy, a leader, as well as a ball hawk. We can get some one year magic out of him. What do we have to lose? It's not like he's going to break the bank.

Re: Champ Bailey @ Saints Facilities??

I'm all about the youth movement we have going on but hey, remember Darren Sharper? Different position I know but still, they thought he was washed up too and we got one heckuva year outa him. Maybe a change of scenery will rejuvenate Champ. If Mickey & Sean think he still has something left and sign him, then I'm on board.

Re: Champ Bailey @ Saints Facilities??

Champ Bailey as our senior security blanket? dam that would be nice. even at the rip old age of 36 he would really push for playing time and add him into the mentor role would be worth it's weight in gold.

Plus the saints seem to always include a veteran DB some where each year for spot duty and what i think is more of a mentoring role than anything else.

Champ Bailey @ Saints Facilities??

I have a great friend that is a die hard Bronco's fan. The tank is empty, and Champ is a huge liability in coverage.

Robinson
Sweeting
Wade
Greer
Carr
White
All graded out better in 2013.

His run defense grading is worse, looks like he doesn't want to hit anymore.

I would have loved getting him 5 years ago but now I don't know. last year he looked like the years had finally caught up to him.

Re: Champ Bailey @ Saints Facilities??

Look, I love the idea. We need a VET. A respected VET. Who do we have to fill those shoes?

Vilma is gone.

I live in Cheeseland and this past year was the first year I did not have any of my heart or soul with the Packers. I seriously had a bitter taste in my mouth when they released two leaders, Driver and Woodson.
I am allowed to have a second favorite team in the NFC.
(Note: I am still open to nominations and I am leaning Chicago.)

There is always room for a Vet to mentor the class below.

I only pray his maturity understands the market value of his aging skill set on the field.

Keep in mind, Reggie White was 36 when he finally played in a playoff game and helped carry home the Lombardi trophy.

Yes, a guy can still contribute at 36, but Bailey didn't contribute much at 35. White had dropped off quite a bit at 36 also.
If Bailey can play, great. Bring him in cheap. if not, I am happy with the veteran leadership of Lewis and Lofton. Vilma wasn't a presence last year and we were fine.

Re: Champ Bailey @ Saints Facilities??

with the last 2 CFL signings I think Bailey for sure would be an all around back up and will provide a lot of experience for the younger guys.
