Saints could benefit from deep WR draft

The New Orleans Saints won't reach to fill any specific needs in the draft. But it seems like a safe bet that they’ll come away with a wide receiver at some point in the early rounds.

For one thing, the Saints could certainly use a dynamic playmaker to rotate into their receiving corps and eventually be developed into a starter. For another thing, draft analysts universally agree that this is one of the deepest receiver classes in a long time.

Scouts Inc. analyst Kevin Weidl agreed with that sentiment in his latest post . Weidl said this is the deepest receiver class he's seen in eight years of evaluations.

Weidl broke down some of the most receiver-needy teams in the NFL (the Saints were listed among the "others") after his top three of Carolina, Kansas City and San Francisco. And he further broke down some of the prospects available in the late-first round, as well as the second and third rounds.

Where the Saints are picking at No. 27, LSU's Odell Beckham Jr., Oregon State's Brandin Cooks and USC's Marqise Lee could be awfully attractive options if they fall that far. They all have that dynamic speed element. And as a bonus, all three could potentially serve as return men, as well -- another top need for the Saints. Florida State's big, physical Kelvin Benjamin is another first-round possibility.

Among the top options projected in Round 2 are Fresno State's Davante Adams, Penn State's Allen Robinson and Vanderbilt's Jordan Matthews. Weidl listed several other Round 2 and 3 options, spending a little extra time breaking down Robinson, Clemson's Martavis Bryant and Miami "sleeper" Allen Hurns.

I'm officially fixated on a WR at 27 and/or 58.

Same here.. I remember a lot of post game sentiment from last season and rarely if ever did we blame losses on a lack luster defense. Most of the time, we just didn't score enough.

Its just a matter of BPA.

@ # 27 - BPA I don't see it being anything but a WR and the ones they show aren't going to be available.

Deep WR class, I don't see us picking 1 or 2 until the 3rd round. I wouldn't be shocked if Evens from UCLA ends up on the team as a UFA because of the depth in the draft at WR. I would like to see what that guy could do myself.

Very strong feeling that they will take Ryan grant in the third. Runs a similar system, soft hands, one of the if not the best route runner In the draft, and already knows Ryan griffin

Agreed. I know some people here are high on Jordan Matthews & others in the 2nd-3rd Rd, but i feel like Allen Robinson(6'3, 215lb) out of Penn St is someone we should really be targeting in the 2nd. He may not be the biggest name but the kid is my favorite player in this years draft. Reminds me of a combination of Josh Gordon & Jordy Nelson ...little slower than Gordon but has big game speed and similar in the aspect of Size/Big play making ability & that he will be a 21 year old rookie. Allen is a true # 1 wr and can go up and make the big catch(see michigan game, etc.) something we really struggled with in the playoffs and season outside of Jimmy. someone who can step in right away year one and contribute, then be our #1 the following year. I honestly believe he can be a pro bowler and top wr in this league and wouldnt mind if he was selected with our # 27 overall pick just to make sure we grab him although id much rather go CB/LB 1st rd and get him in the 2nd.

Watch the kids tape....in the last 2 years he was consecutively honored as Big Ten receiver of the year while putting up a total of:

174 rec, 2,450 yds, 17 TD

This was also accomplished in a pro style offense with Mcgloin throwing to him, would love to see what Brees and Sean can do with him.

Other WR guys id like to see in the black & gold AFTER the 1st Rd would include:

Cody Latimer - Indiana
Jordan Matthews - Vanderbilt
Jarvis Landry - LSU
Martavis Bryant - Clemson
Brandon Coleman - Rutgers
Jeff Janis - Saginaw Valley St.
Jared Abbrederis - Wisconsin
Ryan Grant - Tulane
Donte Moncrief - Ole Miss.
Chris Boyd - Vandy
L'Damien Washington - Mizzou

And of course i'd be thrilled wit ODB, Davante, Cooks, Watkins, Evans, Benjamin but they're more likely to go round 1 & My post is targeting guys we could grab round 2 & so on.

Thoughts? Would like to hear some of yalls favorite WR's are and where you would like to draft them.

I won't be surprised if we go WR in the first.......either that or CB.
