What im getting as is the Saints play with multiple backs and in that system you cant be paying $5ml to one back. You could bring in a short yardage Brandon Jacobs type,a Pierre Thomas and a rookie speedster for that sort of money.

Re: May 3 deadline to extend Jordan, Ingram

How well or how much Ingram plays is irrelevant to this team as far as the $5m goes.

$5m in cap space is 3 RBs to the Saints and they are not going to go down to 1 when they can have depth should we need some... cough(2010)

Ingram has only had 1 healthy season in 3 seasons, so you can bet if we do go down to a $5m/year RB it will not be him. As soon as Sproles hit $3.5m he was gone. Our model doesn't support a $5m RB of any caliber presently.

As far as a $5m RB in this league that gets you a top 10 back. Not happening with Ingram.

I like Mark Ingram, but I don't give him top 10 RB money.

Wait till after the season and negotiate. I think he knows he'll get fair market value here.

I think it's simpler than that. Ingram needs another year of "Prove it." And even then $5M/year is overpaying at the RB position.

Jordan needs to be locked up on a long term deal. Ingram, I would play him out this season and try to sign him cheap next year. Graham might cost us good players in the long run.

You think Ingram is worth 5.5 million based on the last 3 games of last season? It is due by May 3 so you would be paying this based on 3 games.

Saints have until May 3rd to extend Jordan, Ingram

New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan and running back Mark Ingram are entering their fourth years in the NFL, and the team must now decide on whether to extend each before the league's May 3rd deadline.

The deadline for 5th-year extensions came out of the new collective bargaining agreement in 2011, the year both entered the league.

Jordan's extension for 2015 will cost $6.969 million for 2015 and Ingram’s $5.211 million, according to ESPN's John Clayton, who also pointed out that the 2011 draft class was a particularly good one.

That would mean slim pickings on the free agent market in 2015.

Jordan, who made his first Pro Bowl last season with 12.5 sacks, will likely be extended, but the team may pass on Ingram if they can't lower his price.

Per Mike Triplett, ESPN: 'Ingram is less likely to be extended at that price – even though the Saints remain high on his future and could consider re-signing him to a more affordable extension.

Ingram, 24, finished strong last season with an impressive performance in the playoffs. And his role in the Saints’ backfield could increase slightly this year now that the Saints have traded away veteran Darren Sproles. However, Ingram will still be in a timeshare with fellow running backs Pierre Thomas and Khiry Robinson.

Jordan YES - bargain $6.969 million? hell yeah

Ingram NO - Draft his roster replacement now. i feel real comfortable with saying he is not going to have a break out year and the saints have not built a power line either. draft will tell if the saints are serious about fixing the OL. so till such time gamble away you might be doing the kid a favor.

Khiry Robinson - I am not all aboard that bang wagon either just yet.

So drafting a RB is not that crazy. we have a roster spot open at RB anyways.

Killa Cam is a No Brainer. Ingram may be resigned to a team friendly Contract because Coach Payton likes him and Mark Ingram likes him as well.

Yeah, I'm thinking Mark knows he has much to prove before he can go for the even bigger time bucks. Look for a short term, team friendly contract for him.
Cam? Nuff said...
