Cooks shines during Thursday's OTA practice

1 Attachment(s)
“If we were running a reverse or a special play, he’s someone, certainly, with his speed, that would be one of the guys we’d look to do that with,” Saints coach Sean Payton said. “Whenever you add speed to the field, it stretches the defense, both in the passing game and the running game. We just have to find that balance and fit it into what we’re doing.”

Cooks didn’t get as many reps with the first-team offense, because he is still trying to learn a new offense and catch up on everything he has missed since he was back at school.

But it is apparent to Cooks’ teammates that he will be able to make an immediate impact on the team.

“Today, I didn’t even see him when he got that hand-off,” outside linebacker Junior Galette said, describing a play at Thursday’s practice where Cooks got a hand-off on a reverse and sped up the sidelines. “I haven’t seen that speed in quite a while. His speed is definitely top-tier in the league.”

I can't wait to see him in action. I have a feeling he is going to be the real thing. Something special.

How is Coleman doing in OTA so far? Haven`t really heard a lot in the last couple of weeks.

With his size he could be something special as well in our new offensive System.

BTW: Got tickets for Saints vs. 49ers, vs. Bengals and LSU vs. Bama. Making my trip over from Europe this November! Can`t wait

The end around, or the fake end around, I really like.

The reverse? Ughhhh!

Current NFL defenses are just too fast for that type of Tomfoolery.

Also ditch the flea flicker please.

If you watch the play closely it almost always is impossible to see the slap.

Only the most elite offenses can pull it off.

Agree!! All the cuteness that never works needs to go. Smashmouth would be a good option!!

The problem is that we have not had the speed and allusiveness required to make the end around successful. It takes a Percy Harvin type to pull it off. Oh, wait ... we have a Percy Harvin type now. Cooks!

I hate any backward play -reverse, end around, pitch... and especially that Sean loves to call these in the red zone when the D's already up at the line of scrimmage...

Someone in this thread...I ain't saying who...said "tomfoolery" and should be dealt with. Perhaps a poll with options for punishment is in order?

The play in question wasn't actually a reverse, it was an end-around. Two different things. Either way I think Payton does a much better job of using that/setting it up than he did in his first few years.

I remember missing the playoffs in 08 needing 2 yards deep in our own territory to close out a game against the Bucs and Payton called an actual reverse to Henderson. Henderson was hella fast but not exactly elusive. Cooks probably could've gotten away from that tackle and made something out of it.

I remember that play like it was yesterday, because drew gave the ball to reggie and bush was supposed to pitch it henderson, Reggie subsequently fumbled the ball as his is nature and I shouted out all the censored language I could think of

He be congratulated on the proper use of the term tomfoolery. Totally underutilized word. Along with the likes of shenanigans, monkey business and hogwash.

"Givin him the business" is another football term that just doesn't get used enough today.

I think that, certainly, when you think about the player and his ability... The thing that you think about is that you have a player who, certainly, I think can be a game changer. And I think that the consensus of thought around here is that we think we have a guy who will fit the process of what we do and how we think. I think he's got the potential, certainly, to be special.

- Sean Payton

Certainly I agree, that he certainly has the potential to certainly be special.
I'm fairly certain of it. :p
