2014 New Orleans Saints: Depth Chart

New Orleans Saints

32-lineups-NO- Though he wasn’t an every-down player for the Saints last year, we felt that tight end Ben Watson was good enough to bump up to “Good Starter”. Grading positively both as a receiver and as a run blocker, and with a +11.0 grade overall, it was clear “Average Starter” wasn’t giving him the credit he deserves.

- Though he was only a rookie year ago, Kenny Stills wasn’t really good enough to call an “Average Starter”. He had some strong games in the first half of the season, but a fairly lacklustre second half of the season saw him finish with a grade of -6.4 as a receiver.

- He only started four games, but Terron Armstead played enough snaps for us to form at least some opinion of where he is as a player. We didn’t want to get too carried away with the three strong performances to end the season, where he graded at +8.4, so went with “Average Starter” for now, but it’s clear that he has the potential to be a very good player for the Saints.

Erik Lorig, Ben Grubbs, Terron Armstead, and Jahari Evans will all boost their grades this year making the roster look even greater

Just imagine when the unknowns become well known. That chart is going to pop with color.

Toward the cooler end of the spectrum.

Big John Jenkins was as good as Bunkley last season...

Keenan Lewis has got to be the darkest green as he's damn near Elite...

Haralson and Dawson should be swapped; and I'm not so sure Haralson won't start ahead of Butler; in fact, I look for the rookie Powell to be in the mix...

Love Zach Strief, but Elite?!? C'mon...

Cam Jordan should be Elite and Akiem Hicks should be High Quality...

Thanks for putting the chip on Stills shoulder; Coach Payton has already stated he intends to remedy getting Stills the ball more...

Jahri Evans has gone from Elite to Average...hmm

We have a High Quality Starter at LongSnapper...

Now if we can get someone above barely average in the PK slot to snap it to...

What is the scouting report on Vic Butler? I think he should be colored gray ... at least for now.

In PFF focus view, he grades out as an average starter based on backup play/spot duty in Dallas as a backup to Anthony Spencer and Demarcus Ware...

He hasn't played a down for the Saints...
