Oh please no, NO!! NOOOOOO!!!!!!

From Pasquerelli's Morning After...
If Chris Mortensen is correct, and New Orleans owner Tom Benson is thinking about retaining Jim Haslett, one has to wonder if the Saints coach will be relieved or repulsed by the specter of another season with the franchise. Haslett has taken a beating emotionally this season and has handled the losses with far more pain than his players. ...

Poor Jim, if he only had the right players... WTF!!!!!!!
\"Oh please Tom, don\'t make me coach all those lousy players again\"

I don\'t even know what to think...
1. Maybe its a brilliant ploy to force Jim to quit?
2. Maybe it was a typo, yea, thats it, a typo?
3. Maybe I\'m just a clueless boob! :(
Maybe this team has NO TALENT AT ALL and Jim has actually been coaching his asss off just to scratch out 4 wins. Maybe he\'s really a coach of the year candidate and we all are just too stupid to see it.

To say this team has no talent (aside from the obvious showing that it does) would force Benson to say that Mickey Loomis has failed to get Haslett the players he needs. Is Benson really going to go with Haslett over Loomis? No way.

If Benson is considering keeping Haslett it is for one reason only. Money. It would cost the franchise too much money to fire him and go sign another coach and Benson doesn\'t want his profits hurt any more than he says they are right now.

I\'ll tell you this though, if Benson decides to keep Haslett it can only be a money issue, and that would answer conclusively for me the question of whether or not Benson is a) committed to winning and b) places money above all else.

A money issue?

I\'d agree Benson may be too cheap to go ahead and buy out the rest of Haslett\'s contract, but does he think he\'s gonna save money when nobody shows up at the Dome next year? What\'s more financially damaging - biting the bullet to send Haslett off, or nonexistent ticket, concession and merchandise sales? It might just be cheaper and easier to run him out now.

I was at the Dome yesterday. It wasn\'t full when the game started, and after AB\'s last interception I ended up staying for the rest of the game because the majority of the crowd hit the gates then (traffic was very light by the end of the game, though!). I can\'t help but think those fans devoted enough to show up yesterday are the same fans who\'d be buying tickets next season. Those fans may not be so inclined to part with their hard-earned cash if Haslett\'s still around.

Just a thought...

...I don\'t think Loomis is responsible for getting the talent other than being the guy who works out the deals... it is the scouts/coaches/personnel people who scout and select the talent they want to acquire through the draft or free angency, and Loomis is the one who goes and gets it if possible...

You also have to consider that L.A. is still up for grabs..and I have said it a million times...you will see what his(Benson)real intentions are in the off - season..If Haslett stays..chances are..the Saints are going to L.A...If however, Benson decides to rebuild..It will be an undeniable fact of his desire for a winning team to come out of New Orleans...AAnd keeping Haslett around to save coin..Isn\'t going to make us winners...It\'s going to make the Saints..ghosts...

It may be a money thing, but, I\'ll tell you flatly that I\'d take Hazlett over LoomBoom. If Benson had any sense he\'d have offered Tom Coughlin the GM job and then you would see some fur fly. Then Venturi and McCarthy would be collecting unemployment along with Rick \"What\'s a player\" Mueller.

We NEED a Football minded GM and not a damned bean counter. I believe that Benson has a lot LESS invested in LoomBoom and he would be the logical choice to go. I also believe that a kick-azz GM would straighten up a lot of things in the organization. One thing is that he may force Hazlett to kick Fumbles the Clown to the street (I pray for that day) and tell the rest of the car wash crew that they better get up and begin to play football, or it\'s back to the wash rack. Michael Lewis could tell them a thing or two about that. Fumbles couldn\'t work at the car wash, because he\'d be constantly dropping the rags on the ground.

Loomis stood as an usher in Benson\'s wedding. He WILL NOT be fired. He might be reassigned, but he\'s not going to be fired... IMO.

i tryed to find that article or anything stating that on espn. i couldnt find it. not saying that anyone is not telling the truth but i really couldnt find that anywhere. if there is a link i\'d like to read the article. i cant imagine for the life of me we keep haslett after this year. if we do then you guys are right it would have nothing to do with winning and more to do with money

Ok, I\'ll get blasted for this one... I don\'t have a problem with Haslett staying. What I have a problem with is the assistant coaches. The ones who have more hands on time with the players, granted Haslet is ultimately responsible but if he can get a new staff in there and get Randy back at GM. I think the team will be ok.

I don\'t buy the firing aspect and losing money because of it because they can work out a deal and pay him out or let him go get picked up somewheres and not worry about paying him at all.
