45 maybe not, but I bet he could play until 43. Favre played that long, and Brees is not nearly as dependent on his arm strength or his legs as Favre was, and he doesn't subject himself to a beating like Favre did. Either way I think we've got at least 4 more years of Brees and a lot can happen in that time.

I could see Brees playing at high level for several more years. I don't see him going past 40 however but could if he wanted. The game has evolved into a short pass attack.

Maybe he can set the new bar.... retire at 50! He'll need several pay cuts along the way as it is unimaginable what his cap number may be at 45. On the hand, his cap number and diminishing skill set is likely what will gently nudge him out.

Sean can be pretty sentimental sometimes (Hartley anyone?). I've seen many great players stick around too long ending up costing their teams big time in the end. I'd rather see him go out on top.

I have little doubt that Brees can still be on top five or six years from now. He is in better physical condition than most 28 year old QB's.

I just heard Brady say the same thing and I believe we'll see a 45 yr old QB in this NFL where u can't hit the QB. Bree's relies on his quickness a lot and he never had the strongest arm. Plus he has a surgically repaired throwing shoulder. His career was supposed to be over when we signed him. Saban chose Culpepper over Brees for this reason. I love repeating that. But I could see Brady playing until 45 easier than Brees based on their playing styles. But I hope he pulls it off. He looks great in Black and Gold! Who Dat!

Saban didn't choose Culpepper over Brees, Miami's doctors said Brees shoulder was shot.

But I like everything else you said. Especially the part about you can't hit a QB. That'll add 5 to 7 years to a current QB over one that played in the 80's and 90's.

Maybe, but Nickie didn't have to listen to the doctors. He could have pulled the trigger on Brees anyway. Saban was an utter failure in the NFL. Maybe that'll tug at his heartstrings when he leaves for an NFL job. Seems to have worked for Pete Carroll.

1-If our doctors told Loomis that Brees shoulder was shot, Loomis would have passed on him too.

2-Saban ain't leaving College ball. He's having too much fun smacking LSU and use-Les Miles around. But I can see why you'd hope he would. :p

Agree, but consider the following.

If Brees played another 10 years and saw a 25% drop off in passing yardage he would still be a top 10 rated QB based upon 2013 numbers.

If his TD count dropped by 25% he's still in the top 5.

Passing completion percentage? His numbers are and have been so insanely high that it's not worth discussing.

Plus, consider that as long as Payton remains the head coach the game plan will adjust to Bress' abilities.

It won't be a function of how good Brees will be in 10 years, it will be who is better. If Brees stays healthy I say it's possible. A long shot, but possible.

I don't think it will happen mainly because I believe he will want to spend more time with his growing family. Brees seems to be such a quality guy that would value that over football.
