Return of Carl Nicks...

truth is stranger than fiction...

Bucs cut him loose yesterday...

he'd have to be deloused first...

Damaged goods. Bet he sits out the year.

Looks like he's throwing in the towel. Probably played his last game. Bet he regrets going to the Bucs.

Talk about the wrong move going to Tampa Bay. He was nothing short of awesome for us. He goes TB and his career ended. Bad luck I guess.

Re: Return of Carl Nicks...

"IF" he could get healthy and recommit himself, I'd take him back; with him and Evans, we had one of the greatest guard tandems in NFL history...

Re: Return of Carl Nicks...

If the Bucs committed themselves to cleaner facilities as much as they did to winning...... Well ****, they didn't win very much either. Nicks shouldn't feel bad. He's not the only talent that has gone to Tampa and didn't pan out..... Nicks, Revis, Eric Wright, and their last two coaches all sucked as picks.

Re: Return of Carl Nicks...

You have to follow the paycheck. He'd be a good bargain now if he can get healthy.

I like Grubbs .... Nicks thanks but no thanks

As long as he isn't spreading his big toe infection all over the palace. I'd take him back. We'd get him on the cheap. So....

Wow, this is so true. I remember crapping my pants when Revis joined the division for what was thought to be 6 years. Later in the season I laughed my ass off as Meachem burned him in coverage.

Can he play center, otherwise no thanks.

Why is this even being discussed? He already announced his retirement

No need to bring him in. Tank's empty.

Oh... you know. We're all paying so much attention as to what he's been up to and all.

Seems like a lot of big name guys we let go in FA are out of the league in a couple of years after we let them go get a big pay day from someone else. Faine, Fujita, and several others I can't recall quickly. They were some fan favorites that got let go and people got all upset and then poof, out of football. Makes Loomis look like a genius.

There is a reason why Loomis is where he is and the fans are in the stands!

So he's beyond question?!? I don't think so my friend...

He's had as many busts as booms...

Luckily, the most important one was Sean Payton falling into his lap...

That's too bad for Ol' Nicks. He was great for us and that's a shame if that's how it will end for him.

Probably part of, certainly. That and the infection kept him out so long that he just couldn't bring himself back

Re: Return of Carl Nicks...

Losing Nicks hurt the Saints. Not seeing the field hurt the Bucs. Now, he's done. Hopefully, he saved some cash and can lead a healthy life.

Re: Return of Carl Nicks...

once he started showing up on injury reports i then understood why we let him go.

but if he can prove he is healthy and will to be fair about his pay then you have look at it. would he sign as a back up cheap?

maybe work out as a center?

med amd money governs all

Bentley, then Nicks. High profile lineman should learn not to leave the Saints :P

Jermon Bushrod didn't have a terrific season with the Bears last year either, now de la Puente followed him there...

Yep, and it should be. Everyone of these guys risks their livelihood each time they step on the field, not to mention their well being

Oh hes not beyond question but when its fans on a message board doing the questioning, I take that with a grain of salt. Loomis isn't perfect and no one, NO ONE, ever gets it 100 percent right with picks and trades. If we (the fans) could do half the job that Loomis and the Saint's front office do, we wouldn't be here, we'd have jobs in the NFL.

Working in a hospital I've seen firsthand how awful MRSA can be. I just hope Carl is able to get healthy. What an unfortunate event, terrible stuff.

Jack Vegas 07-27-2014 12:45 PM

Re: Return of Carl Nicks...

The thing is he had a bad case of turf toe even before the MRSA. Those usually turn out to be chronic. It's possible he never would've been as good anyway.

At this point he knows he will not start. He would be a huge value playing back up across the line. If he is cheap bring him in.

The Dude 07-27-2014 02:34 PM

Re: Return of Carl Nicks...

I would agree to take him back as backup in a heartbeat if he was willing.

Re: Return of Carl Nicks...

It's difficult to leave an organization such as the Saints and continue to perform at the same level. Winning, Coaches and teammates do make a difference with individual performance. He made a mistake in leaving and I think he now knows that.

Re: Return of Carl Nicks...

staff infections are no laughing matter
staff is everywhere

I have had two of them and they take chunks out of your skin
an inch deep dime wide out of my hip, and my toe
first emergency room, second 2 days in the hospital

the most common place of picking one up is a hospital

you can be hospitalized, quarantined, no fun
except you don't have to share a room

post infection, you are more susceptible to them, but also can notice, medicate and stop immediately

It's a shame Nicks' free agent bust occurred
could he sit out a year, recover, stay in shape and come back for us?
sure would be a storybook ending

glad to see him walk away if that's indeed where things are

another player who thrives under Payton and can't reclaim that elsewhere

Re: Return of Carl Nicks...

I love me some Carl Nicks -- but I doubt he is ever coming back here, after the temper tantrum he threw at the coaches during the Rams game, during his last year here. Injury and age aside, you don't come back from that. Lurking under the exterior of Nicks were some attitude problems and baggage, that I do not think the Saints were particularly interested in, as part of the decision of letting him go.

I am just so sorry that his career ended the way it did. He was so good in his prime, but I can see why he would decide to just hang it all up. That MRSA stuff is no joke, that's for sure.

I believe Brees' and Colston's contracts had more to do with "letting Nicks go" (which didn't happen... the Saints made him a good offer) than any attitude problem or temper tantrum that Nicks had.
