I don't think anybody can answer this question until Griffin actually gets some real game experience. And I'm not talking about preseason.

It's quite rare that teams can just replace starters with "developed" backups, especially at the QB position. Strictly going off of that, it's probably unlikely that Griffin will be Brees' replacement. But hey, I'd love to be proven wrong. It'd be pretty sweet if Griffin could take over.

he should be. we did all we could to protect him last year. to the active roster out of fear that another team would steal him away. that said it all about what SP has in mind for him. He is his new pet project to groom and get ready to take over in a few years. just like what he did with Romo in Dallas

What Drew Brees have you been watching? I pray you are joking, if not this could be the most ignorant comment I have ever read......

There hasn't been any noodling of his arm.

I read in another thread that arm-strength isn't what causes aging QB's to decline, its recoup time from all the weekly contact. Arm strength is the last to go.

Not 100% sure that he's correct, but he sounded like he knew what he was talkin bout. He sounded doctory enough for me!

If he's good enough to start for an NFL franchise, I don't think the Saints will be able to stash him for long. There's just too much demand for starting caliber quarterbacks.

I just hope RG4 does secure the backup position with his play in the preseason. Carrying only 2 QBs, like we did when Chase Daniel was the backup, frees up another position.

In addition, Griffin could get game experience during the regular season by playing after the Saints have put games away, though he would probably not be passing much.

I hear from WWL that yea he looks good but he is nowhere near as good as McGowan at this point
Bobbys exact words were "Its not really much of a battle, not even close really"

That's a bit confusing to be honest, the NOLA.com reporters from camp said that Griffin has outplayed McCown all training camp and has the obvious edge for the backup QB spot....

We'll just have to see who outplays who in the preseason
