Should be clear now why RAMS went after ryan griffin last year

Rumor had it last year Griffin was on plane to Saint Louis but before plane took off payton called him told him get off he was being signed to 53 roster.Payton had the inside tip on him from Tulane coach Johnson that he was another jay Cutler good QB on very bad talent college team.First young Qb from 2006 the Saints had on 53 man roster not even Chase Daniels the first year was on active roster for fear another nfl team was after him.:itsgood::bng:

He looked good. Really calm in the pocket. Looked downfield and made his throws. He's easily better right now than any of the 1st round QBs from this year's draft.

Re: Should be clear now why RAMS went after ryan griffin last year

Last year there was a write up by a vetran nfl scout who was shocked he was not drafted yes he looks as good or a upgrade on how lots of qb picked last year an this year in the draft another warner or delhomme or tony romo could be onlt time will tell.To me if say the saints would have drafted him instead of Stills with the 144th pick you could not say it would have been a bad pick.i love stills but point is given drews age i could have been ok with the pick even if Stills put up good performance for another team.:bng:

Griffin must throw darts in a league........because he was throwing darts last night.

Griffin looked very good out there, I was impressed with how he stood in the pocket on the TD pass to cooks, the defender absolutely levelled him

Showed great poise in the pocket and was pretty quick with his decision making

Yeah his passes where all darts the dude has an arm just needs reps. I like his passes way more than Luke. He even seemed more aware what he was doing than Luke. The INT by Luke that didn't even make sense why he'd even let the ball go.

I wish I could go post a "with griffin looking so good should we trade Brees while he still has some value?" And then go on about his arm being brittle and noodley. I like you guys too much to do it here. Would be entertaining.

He is going to be a good starter for us, and i believe it won't be 10 years before it happens. I like that he went to different receivers, not just the main guys. Griffin to Cooks and Graham is a darn good passing attack.

The more I watch Griffin he has good pocket presence, seems to be smart but he is throwing some ducks. He is getting pressured though.

It's probably the most he's played in a game since college, plus the rams have a pretty decent defensive line.
Take away some of that pressure and I think his passes are right on the money

16-23 176 yards and 1 TD are good stats for a second year undrafted QB, he'll only get better

Re: Should be clear now why RAMS went after ryan griffin last year

We'll never see his potential; just like Chase Daniel; he'll be gone in a couple of years.

He's not waiting around that long for Brees to hand over the reigns. First starting opportunity he has and he's gone... He'll probably be ready to test free agency after this year

Just a few days ago Drew was going on about playing to 45.Then hes out hurt point is father time works against every player.Drew is 35 he has about if he stays healthy 3 to 4 years left yes now perhaps another 1 to 2 years as a backup if he plays for vet min amount of money.saints have Griffin for another 3 years the as an exc freeagent for one year an one more as a restricted free agent. He could take over from Drew say in 2017 season.

SP pet UDFA QB project just like Romo was in Dallas. I do not see SP at this point letting him walk any were with out a fight.

If Griffin keeps improving he will rival Brees in the next 2 years, say what you want but that is a good thing. As of right now he needs to secure the #2 spot, keep improving and wait.

Re: Should be clear now why RAMS went after ryan griffin last year

I doubt Griffin will ever be able to beat out a healthy Brees, however if Griffin is the real deal and keeps improving, I can see the Saints getting out from under that contract Brees signed in a couple of years from now.

Better hope he lasts long enough. I'm looking for the Texans to try and trade with the Saints for him. Did you see Fitzpatrick last night? He was God awful. Did they draft a quarterback? If they didn't they sure should have.

The Texans drafted Tom Savage from Pitt in the 4th round. Unfortunately for the Texans, Savage hasn't done enough in the OTAs and training camp to win the position or even real consideration.

One thing is becoming clear, Griffin won't make it to the practice squad. So we either keep 3 QB's or cut McCown loose.

Well he'd better step it up because Fitz ain't gettin' it done. If he keeps stinkin' it up I would not be the least bit surprised to see them try and pry Griffin away from the Saints. Especially if he keeps playing great in the preseason.

I wouldn't be surprised. Fitzpatrick blew chunks in the preseason game against the Cardinals yesterday. 6 of 14 with a 3.4 ypa and a 14.6 passer rating. I didn't even you could get a 14 passer rating.

I think you're right and I think that may have had more to do with why Drew didn't play than his oblique. Pretty risky decision to go with a second year UDFA over the journeyman. I'll bet the coaching staff wants to make absolutely sure before they pull that trigger.

I think thats absolutely correct. McCown is a known. He's a journeyman but he's an ideal back-up. He can hold the fort for a few games until the starter returns.

Griffin is a bit of an unknown but his upside is obvious, and probably obvious to all 32 teams as well.

Anyone know the snap counts of McCown vs Griffin?

If Griffin shows signs of developing into a good Qb why trade him think about it a lot of former 1st round picks are out of the NFl not even backups.Point is Saints lucky to strike gold then thank your lucky stars an tell teams like the Texans to up grade the scouts who work for the team.DREW is 35 not 25 not 30 he has depending on how he takes care of himself 3 to 4 years at most at a high level. Why trade griffin at this point lets see if hes another Warner or Delhomme or a Romo all who were not drafted.:bng::handguns:

It doesn't take a genius to see that this guy is our next QB. I think he could be better than Drew. He reminds me of Peyton Manning but not as easily rattled.

I didn't say the Saints would trade him. I said the Texans might try to get him by trade.

A few have said it earlier...RG1 won't make it to the Practice Squad.

I'd love to have RG1 take the #2 spot, let McCown walk, and free up that extra 53 spot for an additional S/LB/TE/RB. A 3rd QB can't contribute to special teams very well, unless we start converting McCown into a coverage gunner. That would be a hoot and a holler to watch. McCown can contribute elsewhere in the league instead of eating a roster spot here with RG1 still developing; McCown's talent-ceiling has well been since past. That phrasing sucked but I'll leave it; you get the idea.
